The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health finally issued Carrie Frances Fisher's death certificate and stated it was a heart attack. And under "cause of death," the document "cardiac arrest/deferred" was written. However "deffered" refers to the fact that the county coroner still needs to do further investigation through toxicology tests, which take weeks for results.

On December 23, Carrie experienced a heart attack while on her flight from London to Los Angeles. She died on December 27. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, died on December 28.

Family members have said that they will be planning a public memorial for the late actresses.
