I have no idea how to define myself. My interests and ambitions are all over the map. I'll never figure out if that is a good or bad thing!
I tried to count the different career paths I've taken in my life, but I don't know what comes after one bajillion. Now, though, I'm a librarian. Took me long enough, but I found the career I want to stick with! Why? Well, I like to sit behind the reference desk, looking sneering at people over my glasses and shushing them.
No. I don't do that. That's old school! I like the job because I get to help people find the information they need. When I was in seventh grade, our school librarian showed us how to find books and crumbling old issues of Life Magazine. And that was pretty much it. Now, though, research is a vast sea of databases, books and web sites. I like teaching people how to navigate that sea.
When I'm not in librarian mode, I'm being lots of other things. I'm an Internet fiend and spend way too much time online. For a while, I spent way too much time playing World of Warcraft, an MMORPG. (If you don't know what that is, consider yourself lucky! Stay away! It's addictive!) I also love to write and to act. I've been in community theater productions, a radio theater group, and once upon a time, my brother and I co-founded a comedy improv troupe. I wish I could find a way to get back to that, but my work schedule makes it difficult.
Oh yeah. I also like hunting for the needle in a haystack, taking the rhythm of conversation apart and putting it back together again. Kind of a weird librarian / sociologist / poet thing. If I tried to explain it I might pull a brain muscle.
