Movies
Noam Chomsky & Zack de la Rocha
Noam Chomsky and Zack de la Rocha on globalization.
Amelie, High Fidelity, Lord of the Rings, Happy Feet, Donnie Darko, pretty much all movies minus westerns that have semi-decent plot to them.
Television
Don't really watch television that much anymore. I used to like the Science Channel, but we don't get it anymore... Scrubs and Seinfeld reruns are always good though.
Books
Oh! The Places You'll Go, The Zinn Reader, Essays by Raplh Waldo Emerson, The Butter Battle Book, The Know-it-All, Slaughterhouse-Five, The Catcher in the Rye, The Stand, The Gunslinger, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and pretty much all King, The Lorax, Civil Disobedience and Walden, Lord of the Rings, The Cleric Quintet by R.A. Salvadore, The Pilgrim's Progress, Frankenstein, Much Ado About Nothing, The Once and Future King, To Kill A Mockingbird, Finnegan's Wake (tough but friggin' brilliant, when you think about it), Battle Royale, Brave New World, The Great Gatsby, Eon, America: The Book, Paradise Lost, Catch-22, Aesop's Fables, Chekov, Verne, Seuss, and Doyle. I could go on, but this will suffice. Let's just say I have liked every book I've read except The Sword of Shannara and A Separate Peace.
Heroes
Mohandas K. Gandhi (peaceful Indian revolutionary), Karol Józef Wojtyla (John Paul II), Henry David Thoreau (walks the walk and talks the talk), Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of The Legend of Zelda, for those not in the "know"), Che Guevara (go to man for South American Communist revolutions), Stan Lee (creator of Spider Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and many others of the greats), Pete Seeger (folk music god), Giuseppe Garibaldi (Renaissance man of Renaissance men), Mother Teresa (for overall goodness), all in no particular order. And add a few of my friends for flavor. If Emeril taught us anything, it's that you can never have enough flavor.
