WOOHOO! The Texettes will celebrate 9 years of original music with the release of 2 albums in August. Their first release for 2009, their 5th, “The Lady and the Tramp” album has generated a lot of interest from national community radio stations (distributed in April 09) and internationally via the web. The tracks “Talk in English”, “Redwood Floor”, “What Am I Doing Here” and “I’m a Big Girl Now” have also been attention internationally.
“You Can’t Do That” is being released in Adelaide on August 23rd. From the country hip/hop cover of the Cash/Carter hit “Jackson” to the gospel/pop “The Prayer” and the seductive “Downtown”, this album is unlike any other Texette album – fusing electronica with guitar, percussion and piano.
The Texettes lineup is: Helen Ellis (vocals, songwriter, marketing / promotion), Terry Bradford (songwriter, acoustic guitar, vocals) and Dixie (Dale Ackland) chromatic harp. Terry likes to write, Helen likes to sing and Dale likes to play. Individually, the Texettes all have different musical tastes and levels of experience, but they all agree on one thing – they are serious about having fun with their music.
The Texette Trail began on the balcony of the Gov in March 2001 and continued in various line ups until the debut of Helen and Terry (original members) as a duo in March 2005. Dale joined them in 2007, and the Trio’s earnest focus on developing their performance began. The Texettes are now officially a multi award winning band, earning that status at two major country music festivals in 2008, winning Band, Country Rock, Male vocal, Duo and Instrumental sections and runner up awards in Female Vocal and Song writing sections. (more info at www.texettes.com). Songs that formed part of their winning performances are featured on their 4th album, “Lost in Blue” (July 2008) titled “Dakota”, “Dance Floor”. “One More Beer”, “Love From a Distance” and “Sweetheart of Mine. All 4 Texettes albums can be purchased locally from helen@texettes.com or online at www.http://cdbaby.com ..

The Texettes are an Adelaide based original music trio consisting of Terry Bradford (songwriter / vocals / acoustic guitar), Helen Ellis (vocalist / songwriter / marketing & promotion) and more recently joined by Dale (Dixie) Ackland (chromatic harp/ backing vocals). They each have different levels of experience, but they have one thing in common.......they love to make music!
2009 sees the Texettes celebrate their 9 year musical journey with the release of 2 albums.
"The Lady and The Tramp" features 16 tracks that showcase the diversity of their music style which is "virtually impossible to pigeonhole ....mellow, bluesy, pop, country.....a whole heap of titles" says Mike Parkes (Kicking Country -88.7 Coast FM).
"You Can't Do That" is an electronica/pop style album featuring the Texettes country hip/hop cover of "Jackson", "When Night Time Comes", "Downtwon" and "The Prayer".
Helen and Terry's intertwining vocals have been described as "an enjoyable local delicacy" (Adelaide Advertiser July 2008). Helen and Terry began performing as the Texettes Duo in March 2005. With a swag of new material and a whole lot of enthusiasm they headed off to the Frances Folk Gathering expecting nothing more than to have a good time singing. The reaction to their music was a motivating force to spend 2005 to 2007 writing and developing more songs that would better reflect the sound of the Duo. Dale was invited to join them in 2007 and so the earnest focus to develop professionally began. They decided to enter the talent quests of SA’s major Country Music Festivals in 2008, with the result that the Texettes are now officially a multi award winning band, with awards for Band, Country Rock, Male vocal, Duo and Instrumental sections; runner up awards in Female Vocal and Song writing sections in 2008/09.
Background: The Texettes acoustic 5-piece band made their debut on The Balcony of the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel in March 2000. Terry and Helen, original members of this line-up, met at Community Radio Station ThreeD where Terry was co-compere of the Hillbilly Hoot. Terry wanted to record and album of his and associate member Phil Bray’s original music so the 5 piece began rehearsing on the Balcony. It wasn’t long before they were offered a residency in the front bar, where they performed for 18months and released their first album “Sweetheart” in December 2001. They performed in many of Adelaide’s hip live music venues, releasing the CD/EP “The Land That We Love” in 2005. The “Fearless” album (2006) reflected the changing style of the music. The release of the “Lost in Blue” album, in 2008, is the essence of the Texettes - music that has melody and rythym, intelligent and emotional lyrics.
