About me:
I was born on the December 20, 1990, in Brattleboro, Vermont. My mother, a church soloist and theatre performer, would sing hymns when I was a baby. I grew up being a big fan of Whitney Houston, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald. A few years later I wanted to show my talent to the world and found an audition for "Kids Say the Darndest Things" (1998). I appeared at the audition and was allowed into the episode on the spot. Then, at Bill Cosby's request, I performed "Respect" for the audience, and got an amazing response from Cosby. That's when the calls started pouring in. First Oprah Winfrey asked me to appear on her super-popular talk show, followed by the Republican National Convention, the Boston Celtics, and Rosie O'Donnell. However, it was at the 2001 Gospelfest that I brought an entire crowd to its feet. Next I auditioned for "America's Most Talented Kid" (2003) competition. I didn't win, but I met a man named James Womack, who introduced me to an executive at Da Family Entertainment. I signed with them, and was offered two contracts before finding my match with Blackground Records. Before my single "Leave (get out)" came out I toured with the prince of R'n'B, Mr Usher Raymond himself. Finally my single came out and went directly to the top of the American charts
Me and my mother reside in New Jersey, and my recording studio is in Manhattan, New York City. I, who has been tutored for the past 3 years, has stated that "school is definitely a big part of my life". I performed well academically, receiving marks in the A's and B's.[10]
My friends include actresses Sara Paxton and Emma Roberts, whom she befriended on the set of Aquamarine, and actress Alexa Vega.
I dated then-D.C. United soccer player Freddy Adu from May 14, 2005 to about September of 2006. The two met on the MTV show Fake ID Club while I was hosting it.[11] I made an appearance in the commentary box at a New England Revolution home game when we were playing D.C. United. Freddy Adu registered an assist in that game.
I stated that I was single on Live with Regis and Kelly, which aired October 18, 2006.
I was also in the October 2006 issue of Teen People magazine confirming my breakup with Freddy Adu: "I'm single right now and it's good. I'm so young. I'm going to be 16 in December and I'm just so busy. It's hard if you also want to date someone who has a high-profile profession; we were just both consumed with our own world...."
