Stuff I Dig, in no particular order
  • Books
  • Philosophy
  • Bubble wrap
  • Florida State Football. Oh, stuff it. Your team probably sucks too, and we’re coming back one of these days.
  • Laughing
  • Most all of my family
  • Smartasses
  • Being a smartass
  • The men and women of our Armed Forces. What a shame how our government is screwing them over and our people letting them down.
  • Truth
  • The relativity of Truth
  • The underdog
  • All the promise of 2008
  • Intelligent people who care about something.
  • Haylee
  • Brayden
  • Sarcasm
  • Football Season – (Please refrain from speaking while the game is on.)
  • Fornication. Yup, I'm decidedly for it.
  • Being alone
  • Not having to be alone
  • Passion and passionate people
  • Politically subversive humor
  • Down comforters, memory foam, and 1200 TC sheets
  • The beach at night
  • Traveling and staying in luxurious hotels
  • People who love people.
  • Winning, or getting what I want
  • Winning the lottery. At least I'm pretty damned sure I am going to like it.
  • Discovering new music that moves my soul.

Stuff I DON’T Dig……
  • Ignorance
  • People who fail to flush the toilet. (You’ve been using indoor plumbing for how long now? I mean damn.)
  • Being wrong (Luckily this almost never happens to me)
  • Being told that I’m wrong when I know I’m right (slightly more common)
  • Losing. (Also a rarity ;oP)
  • Female Pro-life activists
  • MALE Pro-life activists
  • Abortion. It's the toughest, most unfortunate decision every woman ABSOLUTELY MUST be able to make for herself.
  • Getting up early
  • Hypocrisy in all its glorious manifestations
  • George W Bush
  • People who just adore that dumb fuck Bush, but can’t give me a solitary reason why I should. I mean, seriously people. You gave it a shot. You tried to support him. Gave him the benefit of the doubt. But it is time to give up the fight. No one can blame you now for switching teams. Surely you’ve been watching the news. The man is so CLEARLY an idiot. It boggles the mind. I really have a hard time understanding why some of my otherwise seemingly rational and sane friends and family still insist on defending this creep. I know Tammy Wynette told us to stand by our man. But you will notice she included the phrase 'stand by your lunatic' nowhere in her philosophy. Neither should you, my fellow Americans.
  • Rejection
  • Bigots
  • LIARS
  • Just about all organized Religion
  • Complacency
  • Empowered incompetence and micro-management
  • Bills
  • Being condescended to, particularly by people who don't know what "condescending" means
  • People who play games in relationships
  • Oooh! I can’t STAND people who leave their Nextels on speaker in public and then have these loud as crap conversations as if the whole world needed to hear. Buttholes.
  • Busy signals, voice mail, red lights, traffic, and irritating automated phone systems. Patience isn’t one of my most abundant virtues.
  • Pretense (Have you noticed how many people on here under twenty list "student" for their occupation and "over 250, 000" for their income? Either I was getting royally screwed on my allowance growing up, or I'm going to the wrong school.)
  • Hummers, (the obtrusive automobiles)
  • Bad customer service
  • People who wear or display the confederate flag. The shit is offensive. It is stupid. Let it go. I don't want to hear your heritage horseshit either. If you are wearing it out of some sense of southern pride, get real. They only make those shirts because "I'm an ignorant redneck who doesn't give a shit about the fact that I'm offending half the populace" doesn't fit well on the average tee. Or how about "Yayyy Alabama", or "I'm a grit lover!" Or perhaps pick some historically significant aspect of the south we should actually be proud of in the first place. Yeehaw, Dumbasses.
MusicSo much. AC/DC, Air Supply (Thats right Neese!)lol, The Beach Boys, The Beastie Boys, The Beatles, The Black Crowes, Blondie, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Neko Case, Johnny Cash, Chopin, Deathcab for Cutie, 50 Cent, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Jack Johnson, James Taylor, Jem, The Killers, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Mountain Goats, The New Pornographers, Nightmare of You, Pearl Jam, The Postal Service, Paul McCartney, The Police, Radiohead, Otis Redding, Outkast, Pete Yorn, The Raveonettes, The Shins, Elliott Smith, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Schuyler Fisk, Simon and Garfunkel, Snoop Dogg & The Dogg Pound, Snow Patrol, The Soular System, Sublime, Usher, The Vines, Violent Femmes, Barry White, Ween, Weezer, ZZ Top, ummm, drawing a total blank now. I'll add stuff as I think of it.

"Without music, life would be a mistake." - Friedrich Nietzsche
"In music the passions enjoy themselves." - Nietzsche

Me and Melissa

TelevisionOK. I have a DVR now, which makes it possible for me to watch way more TV than I would ever admit to publicly. I really like Boston Legal and the Medium. I enjoy Weeds, Dexter, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Californication. The Tudors on Showtime is worth the subscription, too.
BooksI'm for 'em. I read a lot. Mostly non-fiction, but on our recent sailing trip, I read several novels that were pretty great. Jennifer Weiner, John Irving, and Alice Sebold are some authors I've recently enjoyed. Sammy's Hill by Kristin Gore is a hilarious one, too. Anything by David Sedaris makes me laugh out loud.
HeroesMy Daddy (and that's not just 'cause he's my dad), The men and women of our Armed Forces who put their lives on the line so we don't have to. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the many men and women who struggled alongside him for so long with such dignity and grace in the face of such blatant hatred, violence, and overwhelmingly bad odds to give us eventually ALL better, freer lives, black and white alike. I look up to my little sister a lot. She's an incredible mother, and I hope to be a lot like her one day in that respect. My grandma, who died on April 16,2007 was as good a person as you could ever hope to meet. When I get to the point that I can write without crying, I intend to write a blog about the things I wish I'd had the strength to say in the end, and at the funeral, and just haven't been able to say just yet. She was incredible. www.rememberingireneramsey.net. I'll leave it at that for now. Now call someone you haven't talked to in a while and tell them that you love them. One day you won't be able to.

   Miss Amanda's Blurbs
About me:

"I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it." - John Stuart Mill

"If you are lonely when you're alone, you are in bad company." -
Jean-Paul Sartre

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
- Albert Einstein

"He who has a why to live can bear almost any how." - Friedrich Nietzsche

"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." - Karl Marx

So, once again, I figure it's time to update this thing. About me, huh? Um, I am nice. I am smart. I am compassionate. I am liberal in my politics. I am passionate in my convictions. I am usually very rational, and crave reason and order in my life. I am skeptical of things that sound too good to be true or aren't logical. I have turned procrastination into the only form of art that I consistently excel at. I love learning. I want to finish school. I am a hopeless romantic. I have a really great family that i adore and am very thankful for. I love gummi bears, but only the good brand. I lack the joy-in-cooking gene that is so prevalent in my family, but I am learning to enjoy it. I will never, ever enjoy doing dishes, and I believe the inventor of the dishwasher deserves a Nobel prize. I am really ticklish. I am a perfectionist. I am afraid of balloons and bees. I am really cold right now, which is unusual, I could never survive without A/C. I am bad about returning phone calls and keeping in touch, even with the people who mean so much to me. I am funny and I love to laugh. I am a good kisser. I am forgetful sometimes. I can NEVER remember jokes. I never forget having my feelings hurt. I am a cuddler. I talk in my sleep. I dream a lot, and then torture my boyfriend with my largely incoherent recountings of them. I am fiercely loyal to and protective of the people I love. I guess that's about it.

Who I'd like to meet:

Funny, open minded, relatively intelligent people who are looking for new friends. Old friends with whom I've lost touch. The Publisher's Clearinghouse Prize Patrol. I've been waiting to meet them for a WHILE.

Yeah I am sorry to see that as well---too many had no clue what it was all about...only read the first part (the part included on the ballot) and voted YES. Unfortunately, people fail to realize or are simply ok with these amendments having twists and turns---uhhggg very frustrating.

Yes that is exactly what i mean. It was amazing to see the expressions on people's faces as he spoke. You could see not an expression of victory or even excitement but an expression of RELIEF and HOPE. It was even more amazing to hear his speech ...such a very humble, sincere speech in my opinion. I CAN ONLY HOPE that people will realize as he said change may NOT come in one year or even one term---there is a lot of clean up that needs to be done, but yes IT IS COMING.
Yes, I have never been MORE PROUD to be an American and have never been so proud of other Americans not to mention FLORIDA---WOW!!!
