About me:
Allison P. White died on September 10, 2004 as a result of being struck by a car on her way to school. She was 14. Born in Boston, MA Allison was a lifelong resident of Norwood, MA. She was a freshman at Norwood Senior High School in Norwood, MA. Upon her graduation Allison's intent had been to study fashion design. Allison had been designing outfits for her sister Megan and herself for at least five years, and we were all looking forward to watching her skills grow to fruitation. As a child, Allison was a skilled violinist, never practicing, even for a moment, yet with enough natural talent to keep Mr. Raphalian, her instructor, happy. By the sixth grade her desire to be with her friends outweighed her interest in the violin, which then became just a memory. Allison was also a member of Ms. Lariviere's Fine Arts Chorus in both the fifth and sixth grades. Eventually this too interfered with the time she was able to spend with her friends. By the middle of seventh grade the only ears to hear her Angelic voice were those of her friends and family. Allison was active in Norwood Youth Soccer, with her Daddy helping out as her coach she became a great player. She even spent a few seasons playing for Norwoods finest, The Lady Stangs. Although not the "citizen of the month" type, Allison did stick it out in Girl Scouts until she reached the Cadette level. (how would it look if the Town G.S. Coordinator's daughter dropped out.) Most of all Allison loved to dance. Although she had recently begun considering competitive dance, she understood that it was cost prohibitive. She satisfied her need for dance at the Norwood Recreation Department's School of Dance. This would have been her tenth year dancing with Ms. Paula's troupe. This year she would have been dancing in jazz and hip-hop classes. Ms. Paula Pelaggi as well as her other dance instructers, Ms. Rhonda and Ms. Nicole, nurtured Allison's rhythm and grace as well as the disipline of body and mind that was required to become as fine a dancer as Allison had become. In one instance, Allison was asked to step into another dancers part when the other dancer suddenly dropped out of class. Allison put on a perfect performance with only one instructive class prior to the recital. Allison was also a Christian, she was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Dedham. Her Confirmation Bible verse is from Joshua 1.9, Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. As her mother this brings me great comfort, as does the knowledge that at the time of her passing Allison did not even have time to be terrified. Straight to heaven you go, precious angel. Allison loved her friends and her friends loved her. I have heard grumblings of disagreement over who really was her "best" friend. Consider this: If Allison was only going to have 14 short years, she needed to make room for as many "best" friends as possible. Allison flitted like a butterfly from "best" friend to "best" friend, leaving in her path a large group of good, close friends and to my understanding, not a single enemy. Allison loved poetry, especially the poems of Shel Silverstein, I know she is pleased with the beautiful poems that her friends have written and read in tribute to her. Allison loved Hello Kitty, the color Pink, and listening to music. She was always up on the latest fashion but had a style that was very much her own. Allison was the pickiest eater on the planet, sometimes it appeared that she survived on Frosted Flakes, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Rice Krispy Treats, and chocolate milk. Mrs. McHugh at the Cleveland School once told me that from the time they introduced pizza in the cafeteria, on an everyday basis, Allison never ate anything else. Allison was deathly afraid of bugs, especially spiders, Camping with the Girl Scouts was tough, and Girl Scout camp was out of the question.Years ago, on a visit to the butterfly house in Franklin Park zoo, Denice Sostilio and I had to pick her up, and physically remove her from the house, because she was flailing around so much trying to keep the butterflies from landing on her. We didn't want her to hurt any of them. (makes you wonder how she is doing up there, with all those other angels) Allison was also afraid of clowns, as a child she would hide or cry, as an adolescent drama queen she would scream "no funny clowns" and run away. At Canobie Lake Park, this past summer, if anyone said anything about Bozo being around she would throw a fit. There were many times that I would gaze at Allison lovingly through my "mothers" eyes and wonder how I could possibly have helped to create such a beautiful creature. Of course after about thirty seconds she would scream "Stop staring at me". I will love and miss her forever as will so many others. Allison leaves her parents Richard D. White and Cynthia L White of Norwood, MA, her sisters Megan C. White of Norwood, MA. and Linda C. White of Rockland, MA. She also leaves her 9 aunts and uncles and 34 cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Allison P. White Memorial Scholarship Fund C/O Norwood Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 112 Norwood,MA. 02062.
