About me:
Los Angeles based. Will travel. To contact> (HM.)818-985-3700. For an immediate response call (CELL)818-720-2499. My formative musical years were spent growing up in Rockville & Silver Spring MD, listening to Mom & Dad's hip R&B and rock records, and also watching Ed Sullivan's show every week. We moved to Atlantic City, NJ when I was 7 or 8 yrs old. (This is when I began playing pots & pans w/wooden spoons.) I first started reading music by studying snare drum (at age 9) with great Atlantic City drummer "Don Hirsh". Then I got a used drum kit at age 10 for Christmas (thanks to my supportive parents). I was heavily inspired by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Motown, and 60's/70's rock, pop,& soul music. Later I studied with monster drummer "Doug Laughlin" in junior high. Doug's teaching program was technique building on a pillow w/ metal sticks, listening & playing along to very advanced progressive music. I practiced daily for hours. (More thanks to my folks for tolerating that.) ___________________________________________________________ This next section may be long, but please read on... ___________________________________________________________ Growin' up on the east coast, we all gravitated to playing a bit more on the aggressive side. My main inspirational drummers> John Bonham, Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Steve Gadd, Airto, Alex Acuna, Lenny White, Eric Gravatt, Alphonse Mouzon, Philly Joe Jones, Sonny Payne, Jimmy Cobb, Jack DeJohnette, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Carl Palmer, Mitch Mitchell, Keith Moon, Clive Bunker, Barrimore Barlow, Charlie Watts, Ringo, Ginger Baker, Jim Gordon, Danny Serafine, Bobby Columby, Nick Mason, Phil Collins, Kenwood Dennard, Bill Bruford, Alan White, Joe and Jeff Porcaro, Narada Michael Waldon, John Guerin, Ralph Humphries, Chester Thompson, Simon Phillips, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta, Rick Marotta, Bernard Purdie, Gary Husband, Alex VanHalen, Harvey Mason, Steve Jordan, Mark Craney, Jim Keltner, David Garibaldi, Levon Helm, Richie Hayward, all the Motown drummers, and SO many more that I can't think of right now. ____________________________________________________________ My influencial bands and/or artists... (now this is a bit eclectic.) Charlie Parker ("Bird"), Dreams, The Brecker Brothers, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy, Chet Baker, John Coltrane, Lester Young, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stan Getz, Billy Holiday, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins, Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Allman Brothers, Wilson Pickett, Otis Reading, Janis Joplin, Three Dog Night, Eric Clapton, The Cream, Derek and the Dominos, Blind Faith, Yardbirds, The Guess Who, The Band, Deep Purple, Bad Finger, Bad Co., Traffic, Elton John, John McLaughlin, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Chick Corea, Return to Forever, Steps Ahead, Monk, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, Houston Pearson, Jean-Luc Ponty, Michael Urbaniak, John Ambercrombie, John Scofield, Steve Khan, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Stuff, Paul Simon, Weather Report, Sly & the Family Stone, The Chilites, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The O'Jays, James Brown, The Spinners, The Dramatics, Billy Preston, Al Green, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, The Jackson Five, (ALL MOTOWN), Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, YES, Jethro Tull, FRANK ZAPPA, Alice Cooper, Neil Young, King Crimson, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, The Specials, UB40(In Dub), Lina Lovich, Nina Hagen, The Police, Missing Persons, Genesis w/ Peter Gabriel, The Who, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Earth Wind & Fire, Al Jarreau, Joe Cocker, Little Feat, Santana, Chaka Kahn, Tom Petty, Billy Joel, Early Steely Dan(up to Aja), Donald Fagen(Night Fly), AC/DC, Aerosmith, Alan Holdsworth, UK, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Lynnard Skynard, Heart, Tower of Power, Gino Vanelli, ETC. ___________________________________________________________ During high school I bought my 1st "REAL" drumset (A maple Gretsch Kit!), which literally changed my life. I played "lead snare drum" (freshman year) in the school's marching band, until the snow got to intense to march in. So intead of that, I practiced the drumset everyday after school at home. And then, almost every night, I played in a very progessive jazz/rock fusion band called " Wildlife". This band consisted of some extremely advanced, and talented musicians... such as "Bob Sterling" on guitar, and "Carl Damiano" on Hammond B3, all synths, and piano). ___________________________________________________________ After High School, I auditioned for PCPA, (got a partial scholarship), then it was off to music college for 4 years, where I studied with "Nick D'Amico" (Phila. Orchestra percussionist.) I earned my Bachlor of Arts Degree, majoring in Drums/Percussion, and minoring in psychology from "The Philadelphia College of Performing Arts" (Now called "University of the Arts"). Back then, the school focused on classical, & jazz training. It was a very intense musical environment. For all four years there, I landed a drum chair in the college's best "jazz/rock ensembles", and, there was only three of those ensembles (BUT a lot of drummers!) My sophmore year, the ensemble featured trombone great "Robin Eubanks". (That was Robin's senior year, so I was lucky to have played with that monster. I was very fortunate to get the drum chair for all 4 years. Philly was a great musical city to study in. Also, on some weekends I commuted from Philly to NYC, to study advanced drumset with legend "Kenwood Dennard", and also with "Gerry Brown". ___________________________________________________________ After graduating from college, I gained experience doing demo recording sessions, playing clubs, weddings, and teaching in AC, N.J. After a few years of freelancing in town & out of town, I finally got a steady, challenging casino production show in AC for 3 years. BUT, before that "cake gig", I paid some dues for 3 yrs, traveling between Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and Lake Tahoe. Great teachers, and lots of diverse giggin', is what taught me how to groove, read complicated music, play with click tracks & sequencers, and play lots of styles of music "consistently" night after night. After years of that, I wanted/needed to progress musically, so I decided to move to Los Angeles with my wife Colleen. (Did I mention, AC went to canned music in all the showrooms...so it was "BYE-BYE cake gig".) ___________________________________________________________ Now, since relocating to LA, I've continued being a "professional musician", and I thank god, (and some cool people, LOL!). I still really enjoy playing a wide range of musical styles. I've been fortunate to perform &/or record with many great musicians, and legendary artists, over the years. I also have recorded drumset & percussion on several Film, and TV soundtracks since being out here. I recently recorded and produced two solo CD's (engineered by Mike Fennel), at Universal's private studio. The first CD ("Whim of the Current" 2005), and the most recent CD ("Staircase to the Spirits" 2006 (which is dedicated to the loving memory of my father.) They feature some great LA musicians & very challenging tunes. I've been to the "magic well" for my latest inspiration... absorbing "conceptual drumming knowlege" from my big hearted friend, and drumming Guru "Freddie Gruber." PS. I teach a "well rounded program". It consists of technique, chart & method book reading, how to listen, FEEL, ensemble playing, and the psychology behind achievement, ETC. >>> I chose to set up this new myspace site as a "networking site" (as opposed to a "music band site"), merely as a supplement to my other sites. For more info... BIO, AUDIO SAMPLES, PICS, ENDORSEMENTS, CONTACT INFO, REVIEWS, ARTICLES, TESTIMONIALS, LINKS, ETC... Please see these websites >>>> http://www.PaulGoldbergDrummer.com http://www.GretschDrums.com/?fa=artistdetail&id=417 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Goldberg http://www.VicFirth.com/artists/Goldberg _____________________________________________________________ Only musical regret...I got a call from a soundman buddy (Steve Weiss),to play that night with "ROGER DALTRY" (Lead singer of "The Who") but I was stuck in NJ on a vacation. Darn It! Don't cha hate when that happens! ____________________________________________________________ "DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS" By "Mark Mosley" Don't ever give up on your dreams, Or let them drown in doubt. Remember sometimes it's the challenge, That it's all about. Make a pathway to your dreams, One that's straight and true. Keep those dreams within your heart, And hold them close to you. Put forth your very best efforts, And ask God for direction. Have no doubt that if you go wrong, God will provide correction. To dream is such a wonderful thing; Thoughts of what we'd like to be. Dreams give hope to pursue and find, The wonderful visions we see. We have but one lifetime here on earth, I want to make mine count! Have something worthy to offer my Lord When I give an account. Oh so many visions and dreams, That we want to come true. A desire to be remembered, For something we may do. We have dreams to look forward to, let's not give up or forsake. Just maybe one day we'll look back, and know the right road we did take. Peace ___________________________________________________________

Uncle Paul,
What Up, Dude?! I hope you and Aunt Colleen had a great Thanksgiving!

Pamela and Dan (okay, Mom and Dad) are still sleeping - lazy bastards - so I hacked into this account to say hello!

Take care - hope to see you guys next year!

Your Coolest Nephew, Brando Kelley

P.S. I am learning to play the drums at school! (I know, waiting until I was 3 was a bit late, but I am a quick study...)

I love you Bro...everything is good here; No Worries! I know it's good for you out there on the left coast because YOU make it happen! You don't need a GPS to find your time, 'cause you're on it. When I can't surf, do jui jitsu, play guitar, and chase the ladies, you'll have to fly back here.
Take my samurai sword--when I nod my head, hit it. Bury me in a plush jazz guitar case. Peace & Safe Travels, JD
