You know, it is so much easier to put stupid little pictures and surveys in your profile than to actually talk about yourself. So, up front, I'm neurotic, insecure, and self-consious, but I make up for it with my intelligence and wit. No, it's not being arrogant to say that I am intelligent. I have a BA degree in Christian Thought and a year behind me of seminary. So yeah, I think that I can consider myself somewhat intelligent.
I am married to a wonderful redhead who has shown me more about love and what it means to love someone than I could have ever imagined. How do you explain to someone how much you love them? How do you quantify something so beautiful?
I'm in the process of expanding my horizons and making new friends. As much as I love all my friends at seminary and church, I love meeting different people and listening to them. My opinions are, of course, my opinions. My preferences are my preferences I like to share them, but they are only opinions and preferences. My convictions, on the other hand, are something that I would die for and I love telling people about them and discussing things in depth over coffee or a different poison. :)
The past few months have been difficult, to say the least. I have stepped back from seminary, without a degree to show for it, and taken on a different role that I am used to, a provider role of sorts, but a provider to a woman who has become more independent and sure of herself than I often give her credit for. Questions have arisen about the nature of love. As I wrote above, how do you quantify love? I have become convinced that love, true love, is unconditional and comes from somewhere beyond me. I believe that that somewhere is God. God is love, and as such, he elected me unconditionally to salvation, not because he loved me, but because his love is unconditional. I do not make the rules. I do not choose God any more than I choose the weather. He chose me, amidst my depravity, unconditionally loved me and elected me to salvation, died for me and my sin, extended to me his oh so irresistable grace and keeps me tightly in his grasp. God's covenant love is unconditional and therefore, so is his love.
John Calvin, Belinda Carlisle, Bono, John Wesley, Jesus Christ, Martin Luther, the Apostle Paul, Bob Hope, Ronald Reagan, Al Capone, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Derek Webb, and the guy who invented pizza and the guy who invented coffee to thank them for helping to get me through lonely days and nights in seminary.
