The Bible, of course. And I enjoy biographies about people who have had to overcome adversity of some type (disabilities, prejudices, etc). And anything that can help me become a better person.
Okay, where to start... well, I was born in Texas, adopted shortly thereafter and brought to North Carolina. Grew up wanting to be a pro wrestler among other things. In high school, having found a friend who wanted to become a wrestler actually more than I did, we pursued the dream to some extent, but circumstances and seeming futility of our efforts pushed me to set aside the dream and that friendship.
Fast forward a couple of decades: Reaquainted with that same friend, and found that he had NOT set aside the dream, but saw it to its fulfillment. He offers me the chance to finish what we started. Realizing that this was obviously orchestrated from above, and knowing it may be my last chance, I allowed the dream to revive like the fabled Phoenix, and may God have mercy upon the unfortunate soul who stands in its way...
(How's THAT for dramatic writing? Eat your heart out, Stephen King!!!)
