Joey Ryan's forthcoming release, "KENTER CANYON", is equally impressive in its songwriting, its ambition, and its credits. A completely independent project, the record was produced by Tony Berg and features performances by Sara Bareilles, Dave Rawlings, and Matt Chamberlain. Recorded just a half-mile from Ryan's childhood home in Los Angeles, the songs are as much a struggle with love and coming of age as they are an homage to this city of visitors that he calls home. With lyrical depth, and harmonies by Bareilles, the opening track "Broken Headlights" pays tribute to the shockingly clear Los Angeles air after it rains, gracefully likening it to the confessing of a long-hidden love. An original drawing by Alex Berg for the cover art honors the bicycle Ryan rides in this city of cars. "Broken Headlights" received its first airplay from Chris Douridas on Los Angeles' KCRW weeks before its release.
Ryan will self-release KENTER CANYON this month and allow fans to name their price for the download. In the new tradition of independent music, Ryan has funded his own music career by licensing songs to television shows, films, TV commercials, and by of course selling his music directly to his fans. According to Joey, "the freedom is something I really appreciate. It's very hard work to be your own record label, but there have never been more opportunities to make the music you want to make, and get it directly to the people who love it".
Joey Ryan and Katie Costello will share a residency at the legendary Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, every Thursday night in October. Then, Ryan will embark on his 3rd West Coast Tour in November.
Quote's I'm proud of:
"One to watch"
- Jo Whiley, BBC Radio 1
"effortlessly charming music with a warm streak of melody, honesty and humility"
- Heather Browne, I am Fuel, You Are Friends
"Armed solely with his acoustic guitar the Californian singer – who appeared completely relaxed on stage – strolled his way through his set with consummate ease. His gravelly and powerful vocal ranged from boombox to mouse-like whisper"
- Zak Edwards, Birmingham Live, UK

Hey Joey! Loving your material and looking forward to seeing one of your shows soon. We just put up our first track off our debut EP... let me know what you think! We'd love the opportunity to play with you someday...
Thanks for the great show! I had a really enjoyable evening, and I needed it. Also thanks for the autograph on the CD. I'll see you again soon, I'm sure.
Hey Joey, I didn't get much of a chance to talk to you after the show and to tell you that your full band show was spectacular! It ruled! You ruled! Chris Joyner and all the other guys who joined you ruled! The old instruments and the keys all going at the same time, WOW! Amazing talent and you showcased it! Take this time to relish in the moment! I will send pics if they came out good enough!
I hope you're doing well. It's hard for me to get out on weekdays (I have 2 little ones) but I hope to see you at either Zoeys or Hotel. Whether I do or not, good luck on your shows.
