The Altered Statesman is both a recorded and live performance musical situation created in 1998 by Steve Poulton as an outlet for his songs. The current lineup includes Michael Backes playing bass, with regular assistance from Jennifer Halenar on violin, and Joe McMahan assuming the role of musical swiss-army knife and sometime co-producer.
