Belinda Underwood - voice, upright bass, baritone ukulele.
I have been blessed to play with my favorite jazz musicians in Portland and the cities in which I've toured.....
I'm in a band with my sister too, and our new album is out:
http://www.belissmusic.com or on myspace.
Influences
weather, the moon, feelings, hormones, food, books, alternative news, my bunny, friends, luvvies, family, hypnopaedia (I prefer German chamber music), public radio, lack of a television, organic gardening magazine, old jazz recordings, noam chomsky, old radio shows on mp3, some grown-ups, global warming (oh, I already said weather)....chocolate, music, love, war, taxes, my over-active brain, Marvin Gaye
Sounds Like
...a girl who was raised in a music-filled house, played violin for ten years and upright bass for fifteen, who listens to Middle Eastern music, Joni Mitchell, Bjork, Mozart, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bobbie Gentry, Joanna Newsome, Billy Strayhorn, Billie Holiday, Nancy King, Marvin Gaye, and, of course, The Beatles (among others!)
Does not attempt to emulate anyone.
Child of jazz musicians, I have been listening and playing and studying my whole life. I'm currently focused on my jazz projects, an acoustic duo with my sister (genetically blended harmonizing voices and I play the upright bass while she plays guitar/ukulele/harp....) and a Middle Eastern music band in which I play bass.
Here are samples and downloads from my new jazz album entitled Greenspace. First click on Greenspace to expand the song list. Then double click on a song to hear a clip. Greenspace features pianist Benny Green, vocalist Nancy King, and Phil Baker (bass) and Martin Zarzar (drums and percussion) from Pink Martini. Includes originals and lovely forgotten standards.
Use the Paypal links below to order both Greenspace and Uncurling (the physical CDs) by mail.

How are my little sisters doing? I love you all and miss you, and hope someday we'll get to be together again. My April is coming to town this weekend with all the babies! I'll try to send Dad some pics of them all after they leave.
Hey, does Geri have a myspace by chance? If so, let me know, I'd like to visit it or if you can privately send me an email address on her that would be great too!

Hello to all my MySpace friends and supporters, Thanks to all who listen to, appreciate and support Arabic music and the Arab musicians who represent our cultural arts in California and beyond.
I recently returned from the Mendocino Middle East Music and Dance Camp and though I've taught there for many years, my enthusiasm and enjoyment of sharing music with so many eager students and truly interested people remains undiminished. Indeed, it made me smile.
It is very satisfying to an artist experiencing the wonderment of music with people who are curious, attentive and willing to dedicate their efforts and time to study and experience music in this unique way.
I would like to thank all the teachers and students present during Camp 2007 and all those teachers and students-- who have yet to enjoy the beauty of the Mendocino Camp but endeavor on their own to study authentic Arabic music and dance-- for their dedication and support of this rich culture.
Thank you all, who give me the satisfactcion, the inspiration, the pleasure and the fun of being an Arabic musician in the Diaspora-- in this wonderful country, where we can share, teach and enjoy one another's work breaking down barriers of race, class, nationality and geography.
That is what the Mendocino Dance Camp means to me.
Thank you to all my friends throughout the world who support my music and authentic Arabic culture. I have just returned from a multi-cultural tour of Egypt and Turkey and experienced much that spoke to the ultimately optimistic nature of humanity. In this trying global situation these experiences were inspiration. To know that the MySpace community shares this optimism, warms my heart. Thank you for adding my profile as a friend and thank you for helping to create a vibrant, multi-ethnic, respectful and successful online music community.
