I thought it was about time to step out from behind the band and do some solo gigs on my own. Yep, that's right -- just me and the drums! I'd also like to increase the visiblity of female artists in the Boston scene. I'm currently in the rotation for the "Grrrl Rush" Showcase at All-Asia in Cambridge (Monday night's starting at 7pm), but would like to expand out to other venues in the greater Boston region (and Southern NH as well!) For soloing, I'm really into playing in a textured, musical way (as opposed to just ripping out a loud, fast beats). For the past 6 years I've also participated in Guitar Centers "Drum-Off", a contest where drummers perform a five minute solo and compete for prizes. Again, I like to think of my solos as compositions and love to incorporate various styles (latin, jazz, rock, reggae, etc. .), various sticks (rods, soft mallets, and regular sticks), and sometimes even throw in a recogizable theme (William Tell Overture, I Dream of Jeannie, the Chicken Dance,etc...).
I am currently looking to join or put together an all-female band -- perhaps something in the vein of Dave Matthews, but I'm open to varied styles. My previous Band , DEFAULT OUTFIT, performed their last show in August 2006, and it was a hell of a 5 year ride (thanks guys!) I've also enjoyed sitting in with a number of bands, most notablly the all-female world-music group, ZILI MISIK (http://www.myspace.com/zilimisik).
Currently, I'm sitting in with the Boston based funk/rock group, the Leon Rich Band (www.leonrich.com), while their drummer is on a 2 mo. hiatus. We'll be doing some gigging in the Boston area this coming fall/winter!
I'm a very quick study and can often play "on the fly" if need be. I enjoy doing fill-in gigs, so drop me a line if your band is ever in a pinch and needs a drummer! I LOVE to perform!!
I'm proud to give you "Heavy In The Beats Vol. 1 - A Different Drum", the first installment in my FREE mixtape series dedicated to drums and percussion. "Volume 1" focuses on the avant garde side of the instrument, and features pieces from Billy Martin (of Medeski Martin & Wood), myself, and others!
