Caroline Gilmour is a singer and songwriter based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Originally from a small mining village called Newtongrange, she moved to the bright lights of Edinburgh in 2002 where she first got involved in the local music scene.
Caroline was inspired to start composing her own material as a result of her passion for electronic music of the 80’s and early 90’s. Her major influences include Erasure, A-Ha, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Alison Moyet and All About Eve. Further inspiration stems from female singer/songwriters such as Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crowe, Lucie Silvas, Tori Amos, Eddie Reader, and KT Tunstall. She is also a huge fan of ambient and electronica; regularly listening to Brian Transeau, Way Out West and Royksopp.
She was front woman of local Edinburgh band The Meadows until 2006, providing lead vocals and rhythm guitar as well as writing some of the band's material. The band went their separate ways and Caroline took some time out to focus on writing more music and experimenting with different sounds, most notably providing vocals for electronica music written with Ben Gillett from Camel Audio.
Caroline teamed up with former Meadows guitarist Scott Clark in 2007, and between them, completed the album The Meadows never got round to doing. The Thorntree Sessions took a year to complete and was produced by Boy Meets Sound.
Caroline began her solo career in March 2008 and played gigs at various bars and clubs in Edinburgh and Glasgow. She recorded her first solo album, 'Someday' at Windmill Sound studios in conjunction with producer Daniel Davis. The album was released in February 2009 with a launch party at The Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh. It is now available to buy on i tunes, Amazon.com and CD Baby.com.
Caroline has now recruited a small backing band to promote the album, and has just landed her first Edinburgh Fringe Festival gig playing at the Dalry Music Centre on 20th August 2009. Tickets available from The Queen's Hall shortly.
She is currently back in the studio working on new material and hopes to have an EP recorded by the end of the year.
