Center For Non Dualism's Blurbs |
About me:
The Center for Non-Dualism is a community for people who share the Non-Dual perspective of Religion, Yoga, and Philosophy. The purpose of the Center is to maintain a loving fellowship and to provide a nurturing environment that is conducive to learning and experiencing the oneness of Non-Dualism. Non-Dualism is the orientation that there is one absolute reality without a second, and that each of us, although an individual person, is one with that reality, just as a wave is not separate from the ocean. The emphasis of our Center is on the practices such as contemplation and meditation which lead to the direct experience of this Non-Dual reality.
We are a passionate community of people who come from many backgrounds, and have a variety of spiritual or religious practices. While we are diverse people, we have in common the core belief that whether it is called Truth, Divine, God, some other name, or no name at all, we are all inseparably faces of the one, absolute reality, which has no “second” or “other.”
We are not merely “connected” with one another, which still would see us as separate, along with a separate world. It is not that “I” am here and “God” is “there.” Rather, there is literally a common reality that is both the true nature of us and the universe. The word “Non-Dual” is not negative; it is not “non” or “anti” anything in the conventional sense of such words. When you walk along a beautiful beach, you may watch this or that wave rolling along, or crashing onto the beach. Yet, the waves are not separate from the ocean. The waves are not merely “connected” with one another; they are not separate from the ocean; they are not two. This is the meaning of Non-Dualism.
To some people Non-Dualism is a philosophy, to others a religious view, and to still others a view that is so entirely self-evident reality that it need not be labeled as either philosophy or religion. The Non-Dual view is at least as old as the Vedas, which is one of the ancient most writings of humanity, being at least 3500 years old. It is replete within the Dharma teachings, which are precursor to the traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. Non-Dualism is also the higher realization of mystics of the three Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Non-Dual mystics within all of these traditions have always been, and remain a minority. It is for that minority that the Center for Non-Dualism has been created, regardless of which, if any, of these traditions is the background of one’s life.
