Chris has played music for the last 25 years in and around Carlisle. On the way, he has supported many of the finest live acts around from John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Nine Below Zero, The Hoax and The Nimmo Brothers to acoustic acts such as Clive Gregson, Boo Hewardine, Kristina Olsen, Maddy Prior and Paul Jones. Chris is regularly booked for the Brampton Live Festival, the Carlisle Folk and Blues Club, and, Penrith Plug and Play. He is now becoming a regular performer further afield.
Chris, for the first time, is now actively seeking gigs throughout the country to promote 'Trick of the Light' a mainly Blues-based acoustic album produced by John Wood. John, (who has produced albums by Richard Thompson and John Martyn) brings to the fore the quality and energy of Chris’ guitar playing - particularly the slide guitar as evidenced on 'Irene Goodnight'.
To give a flavour of a Chris James gig, here’s part of a review from Penrith Plug and Play:
'Drawing inspiration from the great bluesmen of the past such as Robert Johnston, Reverend Gary Davis and Big Bill Broonzy, Chris delivered an evening of authentic, raw, acoustic instrumentals and songs. With his warm, charismatic personality and laid back manner, Chris made it all look so easy as he swung into action with a ragtime tune, All Of My Six Reasons, followed by a great rendition of Come On In My Kitchen on slide guitar. He growled his way through standards like Stackerlee, Cocaine Blues, Hesitation Blues and Just Can’t Be Satisfied and went into more mellow mode with Creole Belle and All Just Talk. Chris James is at his very best when he involves the audience and they had no hesitation in belting out the choruses to Jesus On The Mainline and Old Time Religion. He is able to draw out an authentic Mississippi Delta sound and has the voice to match…'

Thanks so much for bringing your talents to the village on the 3rd. Someone told me it was the best concert they've ever had here, and someone else that you were the best slide guitarist they'd heard in 30 years!
The fact that it was a sellout, and that you had the audience mesmerised with your playing I guess says it all.
Another hugely successful concert under my belt thanks to you, and I hope to have you back in Spring for those who missed it this time.
With another year winding down to the end comes the end of year awards - and the return of the TGM Awards. The awards are back for its fifth year, hoping to be as successful as last year's.
