Classically trained on upright bass, and in choir from the age of 10 years old, D. Anson has been involved in the Dallas scene since 2006.
In late 06 Anson started playing guitar. He recalls "I was selling guitars at a music shop, and when I showed a customer an acoustic guitar I played it slap pop style like a bass. The customer dug it but, one of the other employees pulled me aside and said, "You can't play guitar like that" Which was the wrong thing to say to me! I started practicing and honing in my technique right there in the shop until my boss loaned me his Gibson J150 to practice on. I tuned it to C and started wailing, a little too hard maybe. When I gave the guitar back it was probably more superglue than guitar"
Focused on songwriting, Anson believes that his technique is a means to an end, and not an end in itself. His passionate and emotive performances are often noted as his main draw. "People like flashy technique, but ultimately they want to connect. Music is a language, it's communication, not just a magic show, not just a monkey doing tricks. "
Currently D. Anson is learning to play banjo, cello, and baritone sax, touring and playing as much as he can. He also has started writing a book of poetry, and He plans to work through the fall on a full length album, and hopes to release it in the spring of 2010.
"It's an exiting time. I love all of my fans, and I love talking to them,"
-D. Anson

Hi Brod! Thanks for all the recent comments on the new work with the red-head. She is awesome. It looks like you've been having a blast all over the country.
TAG!! (phone that is)... hey..we were listening to you in the car yesterday, Ari and Bear demanded.. seems they have a no Anson listening rule at their mom's house... step dad says it's "too much." hahaha...geez.
I'm working on a painting that I have just realized must be for you. I started it a few weeks ago, but after we talked about Abattoir the other day... I think once I get it done it's yours. It's fucked up. Seriously. Seriously. We're talkin' baby skulls pierced from the mouth through the fontinel with the serrated blade of a dagger that has the handle of a pacifier. The background is a field of stars tied to a mobile of swinging strings. I call it: Dead Conscience. Dude. It's your kinda deep. It hurts my feelings to look at it, but it's honest. You know?
Was thinking about you the other night when all of us were hanging out post-show at Southside, playing on the street. It sounds like you're enjoying the tour! Hope all is going well. :)

P.S. I smile every time "Start Again" comes up on iTunes.
Right back atcha!! Only YOU ROCK in tune!! heh.. Oh..and your name came up last night..Ari came into the room with that real pouty look..said "I wish Anson was here instead of making money playing guitar!!" I said; "why" she said "cause I broke a string on my pink guitar!" It was funny...
Awesome news!!! I just love that I may soon be able to have a cd of your music that contains more than the two well-memorized songs I now possess! It's great that you're having so much fun. Any good road stories so far? Pensacola misses you!
Just got my copy of "Joe the Snapping Turtle" was strange hearing other instruments in it, think I still like live version best, but it's still gonna get a lot of play!
