David's life in music began in high school with a punk band, the street corners, and hosting youth drop in centre jams in Ottawa, Ontario. Upon his move to Vancouver in 1997, he and producer John Law went recorded several songs for a first album, and for a publishing deal with the studio. In 2002 David began a music and recovery group for young survivors of traumatic brain injury. The group called Snapped Wires has performed at coffee houses and parties all over Vancouver in recent years. He has now recorded three albums of original material, and most recently released Matters Of Survival in 2oo7.
I have to say that David Roy Parsons is the best new songwriter I've found in the last couple of years. I don't say that lightly. I've played several hundred gigs in about 10 countries in that time. His lyrics remind me of John Donne, and his melodies are undeniable. He's sophisticated and straightforward at the same time, like Hank Williams. If you care about songwriting, don't deny yourself the pleasure of listening to this man.

Hey Dave...can we do it Sunday night...I got a band meeting and dinner on Monday and am off to Quesnel Tuesday morning and won't be near Vancouver till mid May again...
We can probably make it from Penticton to vancouver by 4-5PM! I would certainly have Rae and Leah both hungry and happy to see you with me...
It is our birthday...I just had a flu that was so intense...for 48 hours it was worse than TB!! Sweating and aching, ears ringing, vomitting, headache...I just went through a growing pain or something...an cosmic hazing into my next years...love joe
Life is good down under thanks! Winter is starting to creep in, thank god! It will be nice to be able to walk down the street without getting roasted alive! Plenty of sailing opportunities round here....not much of a sea-going gal myself thou!....any plans to come back to Oz? Take care xox
thanx for the cool jam session Dave**I'm bringing your hat to the Freetimes tomorrow, I'll be there by 8pm**I believe sign up is around 7pm if you wanna play**Happy Easter!
I heard, I was pretty disappointed. But maybe its better. I just got off the 22 hour bus trip at 8:45AM and was at work by 2PM...the whole week of recording sessions was 14 hour days and exhausting and the bus trip to get there was exhausting...not to mention I worked 16 out of 25 hours then played a hockey game with a combined total of 14 hours sleep in three days to get to the studio and start...very long two weeks...very damn long...
On the brightside...the album is going to be brilliant. you will be very proud..joe
FROM DOUG LAING...BETTER DAYS on CO-OP RADIO in VANCOUVER:
Just caught wind of the sad news that the great Canadian troubadour, Willie P Bennett, has passed away.
I opened on a gig with Willie many years ago. I've enjoyed his songs and playing for 30 years, and featured him on my radio show.
Willie put out three quiet gems early on - Hobo's Taunt, Tryin' To Start Out Clean, Blackie & The Rodeo King - as well as other fine albums later. These last years he's been a fixture in Fred Eaglesmith's road band.
A warm-hearted man, a fine musician, a talented soul, Willie P was all of that. He was also one of the great (secret) legends of Canadian music, and a wonderful songwriter.
I've got six of his earlier songs on the player, for those who'd like to stop by for a listen.
Hey David, sniff.that sounds like fun, alas, Mary and I are back in Montreal as of yesterday, getting back into work mode and cold weather ;( However, we were talking about doing a BC tour of summer festivals come next summer (2009) so we should definitely play some shows together then, Also Mary really wants to hear your song "slide i" how can she do that? Well take care, stay out of trouble buddy, was a pleasure sharing the stage with you! Say hey to longjohn from me ok?
hello my beloved roy parsons passing on to you some good news of mine for the start of my new band, perhaps sooner than we think we could be sharing the stage ;)
well just recently in december 2007 i've gotten back for a small improv jam with old band mates and friends guillaume laberge and nicolas deslande... We will be working together in 2008 to make a new record, surely under a new band name.
I've put up two little improvisational pieces we jammed up. www.myspace.com/mercimonami
one short. one long.
Most of it was improvised. On the shorter piece i did the drum machine, and on the second longer piece i was playing piano and start to sing at around 4 minutes into the song.... Perhaps this gives you a little bit of thrasshy taste of what we will be polishing up and into brand new song structures mixing indie rock, electro, folk, and whatever we like to hear basically. Along with vocals and many layers of extra instruments... I'm really excited about this and can't wait to get started.
LOOKING FOR SECOND SINGER AND INSTRUMENTALIST
A talented pasionate musician to join our ranks eventually for shows, perhaps as well for recording if it works out soon enough.
We also have ambitions to buy a van and do a short tour in Summer 2008...
I think i'll leave it at that for now.
Peace to all our friends.
Sincerily,
Alex of Merci Mon Ami
P.S.
more merci mon ami songs also available on www.reverbnation.com for the curious.
Hey Dave...turns out there's a big show on at Main Street Cafe that night (John Wort Hannan) so we weren't sure if we should just throw you on as an opener on Friday or what...I think the Nanton music audience will be at the Hannan show...nonetheless, Barbie will put you up and you'll be safe with us here...are you coming in on Thursday or earlier? Let me know! Cheers bud...joe
