Publicity-shy DJ (b.
Amsterdam, Holland), who regularly hosts the Hi-Tech Soul Movement nights at the Roxy, and also plays the Richter club, both in his home town. He began his DJ career on the radio in the early 80s, before graduating to clubs. Famed for his mix tapes and CDs, he has latterly hooked up with Carl Craig and Rhythim Is Rhythim (Derrick May) to set up a new record label. He is the part owner of the Outland shop and label, and has founded two further labels, Spiritual and BeST. Some of this roster’s better-known releases include Super Jazz’s ‘Hi-Tech Soul Anthem’ and MDMA’s ‘Cerebral Ascendence’. He has also worked with fellow-Amsterdam talent Eric Nouhan (‘Tecnobility’, etc.) and released his own material in conjunction with Jaimy (‘Don’t Be A Prisoner Of Your Own Style’, which neatly encapsulates his own DJing principles). In 1994, he established the Outland imprint in the UK, commemorating the occasion with the release of a compilation, The Best Of Outland And Spiritual. He also licensed recordings such as Two Men Will Love You’s ‘Goodbye Thing’ and remixed for Chanelle (‘Work That Body’).
