Hello to all! In the summer of 2003, things began to gradually take shape as Jay and Lukas decided they wanted to form a bluegrass band. I believe the original name of the band was Hoad's Tornado and the lineup was quite a bit different. I came into the picture when their fiddle player couldn't make the very first show and they invitied me to sit in. In any case, it was a wonderful night of music and after a few more months and personnel shifts, we ended up as a four piece with bassist Derek Kratzer holding down the rhythm. Soon after that, we took off on a short tour of the East Coast and then headed to Ireland to back up Chicago songwriter Rachel Ries. What a trip! After we got back, we were playing lots of local venues and began recording an album of original tunes that we released in the summer of 2004. Following our CD release party, we headed off on a month long tour of the east coast, playing venues as far north as Burlington Vermont, where we opened for the Hot Buttered Rum String Band, to Boston and New York City and down to North Carolina and Virginia. Despite some van troubles, we made it home relatively unscathed and were very happy with our travels.
Chris Campbell from Mishawaka, IN began playing bass with us in January '06 as Derek and Suzie, his new bride, began to prepare for their new life in Colorado! We had a good run with Chris, including a 16 day tour of Ireland and another run up and down the East Coast. Chris left us in July '06 and signed up for the San Francisco Police Academy. After playing as a three piece for a couple of months Brian Cook from South Bend, IN called us up to see if we could play for his 30th birthday beer and ribs party with all of his blues buddies. We said "Sure!" and had a great time pickin' with and hanging with some great folks. And Brian became our next victim...
Check out the website for our upcoming schedule and we hope to see everyone at a show sometime soon!

Hey fellers! Wanted to drop in and say 'hello'. I hope all is well in your pickin' part of the state. We still need to get you all down here in Indy for a night or two. Take care now! Mark
looking forward to hearing you guys play on the island! just the thought makes me want to close my eyes, dance in my living room and pretend its the shamrock!
yes... you're right. i emailed with mark today who informed me that jana's family cleaned up so well that you'd never know the tornado-of-a-wedding had gone through.
i had a wonderful time with kerri and derek. kerri's pregnant again, did you know that? the boys are getting so big... two vastly different personalities. they are very cute though (well, they have kerri and derek as parents, so i guess one would expect that). i said "hi" for you; they were glad to hear from you. i think they might be at lake luther fest or the lw reunion, one of the two.
the whole weekend was simply a breath of fresh air for me!
campfires with goldmine pickers under the stars... can i get that in a box to-go? send in a brown paper package, tied up with strings, express to DC. please, thanks.
it was great to meet you all this weekend at the wedding! fantastic show!
luke - i don't have adequate words so instead, "it was so good to see you!" will have to suffice. four years was a long time to be away; many of my camp memories have more than faded. thanks for sharing my personal camp/stars/lake/campfire reunion with me.
next time i'm in indiana hopefully GMP will be performing! i'm looking forward to seeing you all again!
Hey ya'll! Just wanted to let you know that the Infamous Stringdusters are playing at The Ark on July 9. It's worth your time to go. Still hoping to see your july 4th show in Ohio....we'll see.
