   About Helen Ditchburn
I have always been obsessed with music. I've tried on a number of occasions to get involved with making music.In my late 20's I was bass player in 2 one-gig bands ("Making Garage Doors Badly" being my favourite). But, coz my sister told me I couldn't sing when I was 12, I never took it very far. Not long after my 40th birthday I met this musician who I started to hang around with, after about a year I asked for a singing lesson. Who knows, my sister may have been wrong...
Well, I'm still not sure, but I do it anyway! I even write my own stuff. I'm struggling with the guitar, but I sometimes manage to make my songs sound vaguely like I hear them in my head.
I can be heard playing at open mic nights & folk clubs in & around Bristol (UK) most nights of the week. I gig occasionally. I'd like to do more but I can't be bothered with all the hassle of chasing promoters. I'm sometimes accompanied by my good friend Richard Burley (www.myspace.com/richardgburley) who is a great songwriter, fabulous guitarist & super singer as well as being good people.
Find out more about some of the things I used to be involved in by going to Bristol Acoustic Roots Singer Songwriter Festival & www.myspace.com/barssfest, SongSmith Bristol as well as the all new SongSmith Club.

I've handed over the running of the somerville club open mic night every thursday to Mireille Mathlener & Richard Craine (www.myspace.com/somervilleclub). I still support it most weeks, it's good to see all my old friends!

David Franks: Walkabouts Verse

Jul 4 2009 5:24 PM

(Hi: enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Hey!

We realise how this is quite obviously automated and you will probably consider it as spam and ignore it.. but if you are feeling the need for a some fresh new music please visit our page and give our new EP a listen. We've worked really hard on it and had some excellent feedback so far and would love to hear what you guys think.

"Exciting, Striding and assured. It has an energy reminiscant of everything that was good about the Klaxons debut album.." - BBC Radio Bristol.

"The overall sound echoes that of Bloc Party but with great conviction and sophistication. Go see them live if you can." - iTunes review.

It's also available to buy through our website and itunes if you really do like it.
