FRIGID New York 2009 is finally here!!!!
Total ticket sales, as of this morning, stand at 50% of total sales of our entire 1st year, so please buy your tickets in advance to insure you have a seat. The Giant's Causeways has already sold out all but one of their performances, congratulations.
Don't forget to fill out an Audience Choice Award form after you see a show, and to vote for your favorite local shows for the Innovative Theater Awards.
Sunday, March 1st is our official opening weekend party, FREE BEER, FREE food, and a whole lot of really cool theatre artists. DJ Joey Nova returns to the Kraine - It all starts at 10pm! You can only get into the party if you have a festival pass, but have no fear, our $30 THREE SHOW PASS (THE BLT) gets you in to 3 FRIGID shows in addition to the fiesta! That is WAY less than the price of just one ticket to a Broadway show, even at the TDF booth.
Do not miss FRIGID this year! Bring friends, bring neighbors, bring strangers off the street and enjoy the shows.

In 1998, these temporarily insane guys called Russell Dobular and Erez Ziv decided to quit their day jobs as hansom cab drivers and settle in a more stable line of work: producing theater. They met Kimo DeSean and set up shop first at the auspicious 85 E.4th Street, inhabiting The Kraine Theater and, The Red Room ol’ Ukrainian communist haunts, and one short year later set up shop at 94 St.Marks Place, inhabiting UNDER St. Marks, an ol’ experimental theater in a basement. They did not do this solely for their own fun and profit; they did it for others’. Their momentary lapse of judgment continues to support and let loose hundreds of theater freaks onto the independent theater scene.
Horse TRADE’s raison d’etre from the beginning has been to provide low-cost rehearsal and performance venues, overseen by friendly and knowledgeable people. An exponent of their theatrical altruism is their Resident Program, which provides rehearsal and performance space, and administrative and marketing support to Off-Off-Broadway Companies, based on their diverse needs.
By sheer kismet, a hip theater lady from EXIT Theatre in San Francisco by the name of Christina Augello walked into 85 East 4th a couple of years ago, bearing gifts of Dada and festivals. She convinced us to start this thing called FRIGID, and got us kinda hooked. So now we have this festival, which is part of the CAFF circuit actually the FIRST stop on it. The first year there were 30 no 29 shows because the Department of Homeland Security didn’t allow the South Africans to bring their propaganda thinly disguised as Chaucerian puppetry and we give all the box office proceeds to the artists and we let them do whatever they want within reason. There’s another one coming up soon.
Ten years later, there are still lots of residents, a bunch of guest artists, a new festival, beer at UNDER St. Marks (finally!), and Kimo and Russell have moved on. Now, Erez is joined by Lindsey, Schula, Heidi, James T, and James M as they all help change and carry the beauty of theater into the hearts of many!

TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY, by David L. Meth, is coming back to the city after a two week tour through four cities in India: Chennai, Bangalore, Pondicherry and Mumbai, where we had to turn away theater-goers and nearly had a riot. So we decided to do an unplanned, second performance. It was standing-room-only and standing ovations throughout the tour. Therefore, I would like to invite all to visit my web site where you can take a tour, see a slide show, and read comments from the Indian press, including Time Out Mumbai:
