Strong melodies. Powerful voice. Musical authenticity. This is the foundation of which the new duo, Broken Door, is building their modern mix of pop-, rock and soulful music. The music industry has over the last couple of years, been more a stage for the producers rather than the music creators. With their musical mixture, Pier Schmid and Tobias Östlund are searching for new musical ideas. ”If you listen to the music that is produced today, you quickly realize that most of it actually is based on melodies created decades ago”, Pier says.
Two musical individuals
An important part of Broken Door..s creativity is their seperate musical backgrounds. Pier has a long record of hits, both national and international and has also a long experience of jazz music. Tobias has created his own personal style of singing, from different kinds of music genres, such as rock, jazz, soul as well as musicals. One thing that also connects Pier and Tobias is that both of them have studied music.
The first meeting
The duo first met in late 2006 when Pier wanted to try out some new musical ideas and was looking for a voice that could deliver the message. He had heard of Tobias and asked him to come to the studio. After a little while it was obvious that there was something unique between Pier..s melodies and Tobias.. voice. ”Your songs suited my voice, but they also challenged it”, Tobias says about their first meeting. ”And at the same time, your voice helped to develop my ideas and took them to a new level”, Pier fills in”the result of our work became more powerful than each part on their own”. Today, Broken Door has a long list of songs which all are combining Piers strong melodies and Tobias.. unique voice.
The next step
Broken Door made their very first show on the 25th of January 2008 in Karlstad, in the western parts of Sweden. On stage they are accompanied by four well-qualified musicians. Tobias says ”This is music that is best played and experienced live, which you will notice”. The duo often relates their music to the same feeling that comes from listening to music in movies. ” We want to create pictures in the listeners head and add emotions to them, whether you listen to your Ipod or at a live gig" Pier says, “You can experience that with honest music and a good performance, a genuine feeling, that is the message we want to send. And that… is Broken Door”.
