Combining soothing harmonies, savage guitars, kaleidoscopic keys and a spastic drum drive, the 6ixty8ights brother-blending variety of carnivalesque rock provides a theatricality and urgency all its own. Driven by latent sibling rivalry or symbiosis, Liam and Carin Nicholson, the songwriting team behind the four-piece, trade up instruments, harmonies and lead vocal duties with an intensity that is always ratcheted up when brothers share a stage. Their lyrics convey an off-kilter romanticism, while melodies wield themselves like the iron fist of a fascist regime.
The band's 2004 debut "Wonderful in the Afternoon" earned both critical acclaim and top ten campus charting across Canada, with placement in Earshot's top 150 albums played in the month of November. The ensuing 2 years have proven the band's unique, diverse appeal; their performances have ranged from opening for Jason Collett, of Broken Social Scene, to appearing on 'tween TV phenomenon 'Radio Free Roscoe'.
With the helping hands of Andy Magoffin, Joao Carvalho and the OAC, the 6ixty8ights set out to record their first full length. Chock full of everything there is to love about pop rock music, Pica/Electric/Armada is a full-out assault, from the opening single 'And I Walk', to the dramatic closer 'Take Time in Love'.
There's something to be said about a crafty song and a simple melody. And there's something to be heard in this 6ixty8ights release, Pica/Electric/Armada.

Toronto is experiencing a mini-renaissance of 60's-meets-Britpop rock thrills. Enter the 6ixty8ights. That was a great set at the El Mocambo. Dynamic uptempo riffs, sunny harmonies, solid key-laced pop, a sprawling Beatle-esque sweetness. Stuff like this is like peering into the archway of yesterday, and infusing it with something more contemporary. Peace, love, and dammit, some of the catchiest UK inspired music in the city.
That was a great set at The Neutral. Genuine enthusiasm merging the souls of Spoon, Britpop melodies, and that catchy 60's spirit. Really a dynamic band that's cohesive and tight. This is how rock is supposed to work.
