UNDER DIAMOND SKIES : EXTRACT OF ALBUM REVIEW - 'FOLK AND ROOTS' . . .
"Although the trio take their name from the surname of their main singer Beth Navaro, they are very much a three card trick and along with songwriters Pete White and Steve Austin, 'Under Diamond Skies' brings together each of these disparate voices to produce a British country based album of some considerable merit. This collection of songs provides a difficult choice for those responsible for coming up with the first single as the more accessible or 'catchy' titles are so much in abundance. "Always" is instantly radio friendly with an inspired choice of arrangement that includes the employment of a brass band section, reminiscent of early Richard and Linda Thompson arrangements.
The thoroughly gorgeous "Moonrise" gives more than a slight indication of Navaro's command over sensitive ballad singing. . .
Towards the end of the album "Like the Rain" and the soulful "Blackbird" leave you wanting to hear more of Navaro, both as a trio and in its individual component parts."

Beth Navaro’s country-influenced sound now evolves into something new as she joins forces with singer/songwriters Pete White and Steve Austin . This disparate trio have been described as a ‘singers collective’ where the sound is about voices, but the song is the star.
Beth’s affection for roots music, Pete’s flair for anthemic melodies and Steve’s love of British and American folk all find their place in the NAVARO mix. The trio share lead vocal duties and combine in ways determined by the song.
In some respects NAVARO follow in the tradition of Crosby, Stills and Nash. Unlike CSN though, the boys voted to name the act after one band member for reasons of brevity and because ‘Beth has a great surname so why not?’
While Beth was working on her debut album Pete was busy recording with double-Grammy winning producer/programmers Andy Wright (Massive Attack/Jeff Beck) and Adrian Hall (Lou Rhodes). Pete played at Glastonbury in 2005 and continues to perform his unique brand of ‘in-your-face’ acoustic balladry as a solo artist.
Steve has fronted many bands and worked with Andy himself along with the producers of June Tabor, The Cure and The Lemonheads.
Pete and Steve met on the vibrant Hertfordshire ‘open-mic’ circuit and were an effective force as a duo before they eventually met Beth Navaro. She was recruiting for band members to help support the release of her debut album. What actually emerged from the resulting rehearsals was however something entirely different...
