Purdue University is a world-class institute, having the size and budget of some cities and even countries.
In a November 2004 listing, the Times of London in a new survey ranking universities from all over the world ranked Purdue University 59th overall and 25th in North America.
Several departments have been ranked among the top in the nation and the world. In some areas it is considered as prestigious as Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. People who have worked or studied at Purdue have won both Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes, and others have contributed to the “Seven Wonders of the Modern World”–including the Golden Gate Bridge and the Hoover Dam. Work by Purdue researchers led to the first successfully transmitted television pictures, and it was the first university in the country to establish a department of computer science. Purdue's analytical chemistry, agricultural and biological engineering, industrial/manufacturing, and landscape architecture design programs have all been ranked as second in the nation.
Television
Purdue Univeristy is known as the "Home of the Astronauts." Since the time of the “Space Race,” Purdue University Engineering and Aeronautics and Astronautics departments have been almost predominate. Purdue graduates range from Neil Armstrong, first person to walk on another world, to Eugene Cernan, the last. Virgil “Gus” Grissom became one of NASA’s seven original astronauts. (Purdue University’s Grissom Hall is named for him.) More than a third of all U.S. manned space flights have had at least one Purdue graduate.
Books
Purdue University is noted for its innovation in technology and engineering.
For example, recent work by Purdue University scientists has created a simulation
that enables them to study in detail what probably happened when the
commercial airliner crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center,
WTC, on September 11, 2001.

John Purdue was born around 1802 and died in 1876. He is the founding benefactor of Purdue University. He was the founder of the Purdue Block, said to be the largest business block west of Wall Street; at least seven companies including a prominent New York company; and he was a president or silent partner of several additional companies. He was a much more complex and intriguing individual than anyone knew.
To find out more about John Purdue read the newly published book, UNCLE: MY JOURNEY WITH JOHN PURDUE.
In the most comprehensive biographical study of John Purdue (c. 1802-1876) to date, UNCLE: MY JOURNEY WITH JOHN PURDUE, Purdue's great-great-grandniece describes her travels to the places where Purdue had lived in order to learn about the mysterious relative known in her family as "Uncle." The author examines Purdue's beginning among illiterate, immigrant, Pennsylvania mountain-hollow folks. John Purdue's father may have immigrated from Ireland, Scotland, France, or even Germany.
The author describes the destitute family's journey into Ohio and Purdue's ascent from penniless “hobo” to enterprising local entrepreneur to national figure. Purdue - who was involved in developing the cities of New York and Chicago as well as Lafayette, Indiana, - set up a business empire that extended across the nation in the mid-1800s. He became successful in a variety of fields - the mercantile, real estate, banking, manufacturing, railroading, building, and farming sectors.
The highly-readable biography is also a case study in historic and genealogical "detective" work that delves deeply into Purdue's complex psyche. "Uncle" challenges a common belief that Purdue was a cold-hearted business mogul. Instead, the author shows that Purdue was a human being and as a generous family man with a visionary nature.
Foreword by Pulitzer Prize-nominated author, William Allen, author of Starkweather: Inside the Mind of a Teenage Killer and other books.
Author Irena McCammon Scott is the great-great-grandniece of John Purdue. She has a Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Missouri, and was an Assistant Professor of Biology at St. Bonaventure University. She has published works in biology and about Ohio history.http://www.myspace.com/Irena_Scott

“You have to have faith that you are part of the plan (God's plan), and that life will yield to you if you are persistent and courageous,” by Les Brown in his book, It's Not Over Until You Win!: How to Become the Person You Always Wanted to Be - No Matter What the Obstacles
"I believe that there is no God… Having taken that step, it informs every moment of my life. I’m not greedy. I have love, blue skies, rainbows and Hallmark cards, and that has to be enough. It has to be enough, but it’s everything in the world and everything in the world is plenty for me. It seems just rude to beg the invisible for more… Believing there’s no God means I can’t really be forgiven except by kindness and faulty memories. That’s good; it makes me want to be more thoughtful. I have to try to treat people right the first time around… I don’t travel in circles where people say, 'I have faith, I believe this in my heart and nothing you can say or do can shake my faith.'" –Penn Jillette
Thanks!! It's such a blessing to be part of your network and to have you on our MySpace community.

We wish you God's favour in your life and among those around you. Please continue striving for all that is "true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable," Philippians 4:8. The rest outside this is empty pursuit.
'The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him with friendship.' -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dear John, Thanks for your friend request. I really appreciate your interest and support. I hope to hear from you sometime.
"These teachings in regard to woman so faithfully reflect the provisions of the canon law that it is fair to infer that their inspiration came from the same source, written by men, translated by men, revised by men. If the Bible is to be placed in the hands of our children, read in our schools, taught in our theological seminaries, proclaimed as God’s law in our temples of worship, let us by all means call a council of women in New York, and give it one more revision from the woman’s standpoint. –Elizabeth Cady Stanton
I am honored to oblige your most esteemed favor. Remember to promote the cause of liberty and the honor of America, and to relieve distressed humanity, in whatever shape she may present herself.
