My main bass heroes : Oscar Pettiford, Scott LaFaro, Paul Chambers, Charles Mingus, NHOP,Eddy Gomez, Avishai Cohen,......... my main jazz heroes : Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau, Miles, Coltrane, Chet Baker, Michael Brecker, Philly Jo Jones,Roy Haynes, Ella Fitzgerald,Roland Kirk,.....well, the list is long.
When it comes to modern jazz bands i am a big fan of EST, Brad Mehldau trio, Avishai Cohen group, Azul,The Bad plus, Beady Belle,.......
And when it comes to pop music, Sting is my man!
I studied the electric bass with Michel Hatzigeorgiou as well as the doublebass with Jean-Louis Rassinfosse at the Royal Conservatory of Bruxelles.
After finishing those studies i studied the jazz-doublebass at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Hein van der Geyn and Frans van der Hoeven and as a sidesubject classical bass with Roelof Meier.I did my master in Jazz-doublebass in the hague 2006 and during those studies an erasmus exchange program made me go to Barcelona for a year and study with Mario Rossy and Horacio Fumero at ESMUC ( Escole Superior de Musica de Catalunya).
Besides being a sideman in many musical situations, one of my main musical projects at the moment is my duo with the portuguese singer Sofia Ribeiro.This duo released its first CD DANCA DA SOLIDAO in january 2006 and since then is extremely active performing all over Europe.
My other main project is my 4tet with the same singer, the Marc Demuth 4tet feat. Sofia Ribeiro, project which will release its first CD at the end of the year.The band members are from Luxemburg, Belgium and Portugal and the music orients towards own compositions in a modern 'even eight' jazz style.
I play also on the first CD of the luxemburgish singer Sascha Ley, TRAVELLING LIGHT, which was released in January this year.
The Marc Demuth 4tet feat. Sofia Ribeiro released its first CD ORIK in January 2008.
I am also recently the head of the Jazz department of the music school of Echternach and I teach acoustic bass, electric bass as well as Jazz-combo.

The 31th edition of Jazz Hoeilaart: Join the Contest!

If you are an ambitious jazzgroup with young musicians you can inscribe for the Jazz Hoeilaart Contest 2009 until the 15th of may. The festival, which is organised by Muziekmozaïek in collaboration with vzw De Rand, will take place from the 24th until the 26th of September and is intended for young international Jazz talent.
The 30-years old festival has its reputation for bringing international talent into the spotlights. Many known artists, such as Rosario Guiliani, Michiel Borstlap, Magnus Lindgren, Alexi Tuomarila and Robin Verheyen were on stage at this international contest.
The 31st edition of the contest will open on Thursday the 24th of September 2009. Until the 26th of September six finalists will perform in a contest-formula. Each evening will close with performances of Jack Van Poll/ Jef Neve/ Bart Van Caeneghem/ Ewout Pierreux (24/09), Hijaz (25/09), en Cintia Rodriguez (26/09). Ambitious young musicians can inscribe for the contest-section until the 15th of May 2009.

FINALLY!!! The live video of Mr. Confuse & The Confusers playing at the Mephisto Club in Hannover Germany on 27th September 2008 is ready. It was the album release concert of the Mr. Confuse album “Feel The Fire” released on Légère Recordings as DLP, CD and digital in September 2008.
