Gav Mac was given his first lessons by the celebrated guitarist and Professor Jody Shipley. He attended the Chellaston School of Music, studying with Birthday Barry and Iva Smallen, and the Boys College of Music where he worked with Ben Dover. Gav Mac won a Fulbright Scholarship to Paris where he studied with the reverend Lanky Larry in both performance and composition. During this time he also performed extensively in Spain, France, England, Holland and Belgium.
Gav Mac became the youngest concertmaster of a main stream Punk Rock Orchestra in the U.k. when he was engaged by the Evil Symphony under Jonn Wrenn. He was invited to eat Buffalo by John in 1996 and they united Creating The Maybeez, and in turn were awarded the position of concertmaster in the Jody Shipley Philharmonic in 1999,
