Red Carpet Rats offer enthusiasts seamless, driven, power pop rock – a musical opportunity to live in the moment and bask in an energy-rich wave of sound.
The result of thousands of practice hours and a collective, obsessive attention to detail, the band’s edgy and gripping tunes deliver a succinct, four-part harmony with evidence of individual creativity. Lead singer Uni Pereira’s lyrics, in his alternately raspy and coy voice, spiral around guitarist McCabe’s melodies and quick fingerwork. Drummer Tige Bucchino lays the foundation with a steady bombardment of beats while bass player Doc Singles extends seething bass lines and high harmonies to the mix. These individual elements align to create a hard rock counterpoint to their hooky pop melodies.
The Nashville-based group’s new CD, “The Year of the Rat” on Chauffeur Records, includes 11 songs produced by McCabe, mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Kevin Beamish (Elton John, Henry Rollins), and mastered by Randy LeRoy (Relient K). “Eleven songs of faith, hope, and misery” is how Uni describes it. Anchored by the memorable debut single “Photographic Memory,” and the equally catchy and haunting “Going To Hell,” as well as the groove-heavy “Written In The Scars,” the collection includes a special guest appearance by session ace Tim Akers (Kid Rock, Jewel). Songs from the record have also recently been added to both brand partnering company trueAnthem's viral marketing campaign (which yielded a sponsorship with Old Navy) and an LBM Music Zine compilation CD, distributed free at all Hot Topic locations nationwide.
Chauffeur Records, the brain child of Uni and McCabe, enters this project in a joint venture with publishing company Songs By Accident Music. This 2009 joint venture looks to include multi-media components with “The Year of the Rat” release, targeting film, TV and video game placement. Digital music network TouchTunes will be licensing the record and premiering it to over 30,000 bars, restaurants, retailers and entertainment centers in North America.
The 2009 initiatives come on the heels of RCR’s E.P., “Rug Burns,” which mines the depths of love, the angst of love lost, and the realization you’ve wasted love on some loser you don’t give a *$% about anymore. All five of “Rug Burns’” songs have gotten regular airplay on over 80 mainstream, college and internet radio stations, gathering a string of superlative-laden reviews. “The best new voice within the music industry,” says Chad Eddinger, General Manager of 91.1 FM WBUQ Pennsylvania. Calvin Williams III, Music Director at Michigan’s 91.5 FM WMHW echoes Eddinger’s accolades. “They take witty lyrics, energetic music, and melodic vocals and make a concoction that’s pure musical enjoyment.”
The workaholic Rats have several other projects keeping their schedule active. Uni documents life as an indie musician in monthly feature articles for the popular publication ACED Magazine. He and Doc are also penning a Red Carpet Rats comic book which will be released through Viper Comics. McCabe lends his skills to Emmy-winning director/cinematographer Jeff Steinborn, composing music for nationally televised commercials.
RCR, who serve as the official "spokesband" for charitable organization Preventing Child Abuse Tennessee, also hosts song-writing clinics for students at a local Nashville school, and keep a hands-on attitude with their international street team, The Rats Pack. Never missing an opportunity to give back, Red Carpet Rats are joining Armed Forces Entertainment in touring overseas military bases.
It’s safe to say that wherever Red Carpet Rats lands this year, it’s sure they’ll offer at least a brief escape and some energy-infused R&R to one and all.
