GoGirlsMusic.com is proud to present the 8th annual Invasion of the GoGirls during Austin's annual "South by" weekend : March 13-15, 2008
Annie, Jon and Jeff got together in early 2006 to play a few gigs together in the Dallas area. They quickly realized that they had a unique sound that crossed boundries of folk, rock, country, jazz and blues. Drummer April Samuels keeps everyone on time and reminds us that high tops are a MUST in the wardrobe! While Annie writes the majority of the tunes Rocket Girl performs , they also play tunes written by Nick Lowe, Brian Wilson, Smithereens and the occasional ACDC tune! And yes.... Jon and Jeff are related....
Surprisingly cool music in a surprisingly comfortable venue. Those boots made me a bit uncomfortable though...ha-ha. (But then...I live barefoot as much as possible anyway.)
1) (commonly " frog giggin' ") in North America is the practice of hunting frogs with a spear.[1] The spear is called a gig and usually has at least three tines, like a trident. Flashlights are sometimes used to daze the frogs, for easier capture. A fishing license will be required in some jurisdictions.[2]
The frog’s legs are often cooked, deep fried or sautéed.[3] Traditionally they are breaded with a mixture of egg and crumbs. In the southern states, they are rarely sold in restaurants or stores.
Although capturing frogs, with a net or clasp pole, may be referred to as frog gigging, gigging without a gig is not really gigging. Handling frogs with the objective of releasing them may harm the creature because chemicals can easily be absorbed through their skin.
2) The act of a frog beating on a box in a musical performance at a coffee shop.
3) That same frog getting caught by a large elephant after beating on her box at the coffee shop in question.
Thank you for including me in your circle of friends. I enjoyed listening to your music! I hope you get a chance to stop by my page and listen to my Christmas song, "Best Gift of All."
I had hoped that Rocket Girl had realized the dark side of her box beater and would have removed her by now. Apparently, she does not know the danger of the frog.
Ashley Danielle Director of Artist Relations for Guitar Amplifier Blueprinting (GAB). She is also the girl in my avatar biasing the Fender Deluxe Reverb. She also plays guitar.
Tonight's performance did not include flute or jet packs. I was totally expecting to see flying flute players. Perhaps that is only done in the electric sets with full band?
PS~ The frog had better watch where she sticks that tongue!
Thanks for the friends request. I used to play with the band Southbound when I lived in Garland. I miss the music scene in Dallas. Good pics on your site.
