The Fillmore East, 1968.
"Chicken-skin alert: If you’re a Les Paul-through-Marshall fanatic and believe that the ripe, searing sounds of Paul Kossoff with Free, Mick Taylor with the Bluesbreakers, and Fresh Cream-era Eric Clapton represent the apex of Sunburst tone, then don’t miss Greg Martin’s plangent licks. You just might conclude he’s the most toneful Paul-bearer playing today. Greg Martin’s throaty lines are so stout they sound like he carved them from a 100-year-old oak tree. Now that’s tone, brother!"

"Greg Martin, as always, has the perfect tone, plays the perfect notes, and makes you want to smile that smile of recognition almost every time his fingers hit the strings."

"A BAND TO WATCH OUT FOR: RUFUS HUFF, fronted by Kentucky Headhunters lead guitarist. Remember when Gov't Mule ushered 70's hard rock heads back to the Marshall-driven, bluesified sonic glories of bands like Mountain, Cream, Cactus, Free and early ZZ Top? Well, It looks like Greg Martin has decided to step into that lamentedly vacated void..........
I haven't been this excited about an upcoming release in years."

Which one is Rufus? Well, neither. Rufus Huff, a four piece band, named after two obscure bluesmen, Whistlin' Rufus and Luther Huff. An eclectic mix of rock, funk, blues, boogie and "Dixie" through a stack of Marshall amps.
A distinctive sound...that which could be heard for miles around.
Driving beat grinding forth from the shadowy shack in the holler deep in the clay muddy, Kentucky Bluegrass covered land. Music pealed out in deafening decibels, which made the coon dogs howl, with delight of course, but not so loud that the amazing soulfulness wasn't painfully obvious.
"What or who is making that racket that won't leave my mind?" They told me, "They call themselves Rufus Huff, but nobody knows for shure what's happenin' in that holler, too scared to go!" I had to see and hear for myself, so I struck out asking, "Am I gonna get my ass shot down there?" As I made my way through this crazy maze of trees, I began to hear the rock/soul/funk sound echoing with that distinctive Marshall growl.
After a few more leaps and a creek to cross, there it was, a shack to put every movie image of the perfect broken-down Kentucky hillbilly palace to shame! The front porch was adorned with a couch and an appliance resembling a fridge, but too mold-covered to tell. Wood-burning smoke curling from the chimney, and the familiar vintage tone rumbling from a fuzzed out bass and throaty drum beat, enticed me to take a peek inside.
The first person I saw was no surprise! I knew that familiar Les Paul warmth could only be mastered by one....Greg Martin! With a sexy blend of early ZZ Top, a hint of Sly and the Family Stone, topped off with just the right amount of Cream. "Finally!" I screamed, "A band that delivers what I've been craving since the days of 70's Rock Gone By!"
Rufus Huff, featuring Grammy Award winning Kentucky HeadHunters lead guitarist Greg Martin, ex-Supafuzz rhythm section Dean Smith & Chris Hardesty and Jarrod England on vocals. Come and taste the rock n’ funk stew of Rufus Huff, sprinkled with just the right amount of Bar-B-Q grease. Have mercy childr'n!!!
