Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Jason Thinh, who also plays with the Chinkees, and located in Milpitas, CA, Short Round also features the work of bassist Nate Higley and drummer Randall.
Influenced by the tunes of bands like Jawbreaker, Bikini Kill, or even Pavement, the trio delivers a melodic wave of punk-pop, blended with driving highlights of ska, funk, and alternative pop. Shortly after their assemblage, Short Round played its first live shows, for the first time delivering their energizing and powerful tunes. In 2000, the group entered the studio to record their first disc with the help of Jamie Stewart, responsible for the record's production and mixing. The Easy Target EP, issued by Second Rate Records, confirmed the trio's rocking potential and at the same time simplified the way for the squad to record their first full-length disc. Two years after the offering of their debut EP, the California team (now with James Leste on drums) issued Language, their first album, through the Asian Man Records catalogue, supporting their silvery and melodious tunes of punk-pop. A bit of touring followed, but by the fall of 2004, Leste and Higley had both left to pursue their band Push to Talk, leaving Thinh to look for replacements. ~ Mario Mesquita Borges
