Sounds Like
“Sofia is an exceptionally talented musician who is stylistically diverse and technically proficient, with a remarkable ear and articulation technique. Her stylistic interpretation is seasoned, sophisticated and extremely expressive. She is one of the best scat singers that I have ever worked with!”
Bob Stoloff
“Sofia entered the talent-filled stage with both confidence and nobility. Her sound was wonderful. Her musical choices were simple and tasteful, managing to have presence without the usual vocal jazz clichés of over drama and imitation (…). This is clearly a case of true musical love and talent mixed sophisticatedly with lots of hard work.”
By Nomi Zysblat, about Rainbow Band Concert at B.P.C., (Boston, U.S.A.), December 2005
”Sofia seems to infuse the lyrics with emotion and soul and not simply sing the melodies, and this makes all the difference. An excellent debut record for a Portuguese jazz singer!”

She sang in different jazz festivals over Europe, like the Brussels Jazz Marathon (Belgium), FIMU (Belfort, France), Jazzfest Euricore Trier 2004 (Germany), Jazz and Blues Express Differdange (Luxembourg), Lagos Jazz (Portugal), Jazz 'In Tondela (Portugal) and Capital, Jazz (Paços de Ferreira, Portugal) and her recent performances include The Music Village (Brussels, Belgium), The Hopper (Antwerp, Belgium), L'Inoui (Luxembourg), Jazz Si Club (Barcelona), Berklee Performance Center (Boston), Sa Clau Jazz Club (Menorca, Spain), David Friend Recital Hall (Boston), Hot Club (Lisbon), Rundetaarn (Copenhague, Denmark), Millennium Stage (Washington) and Walderdorff (Trier, Germany).

She also participated in the 16th Jazz Workshop International in Trier with Norma Winstone and Maria Pia de Vito and in the Advanced Workshop of Improvisation in Terschelling Island, Holland, with the singer Rhiannon, member of the group Voicestra conducted by Bobby McFerrin.
She got the second prize of the first Brussels International Young Jazz Singers Competition, in October 2005, organized by "The Music Village". In January 2008 she released her second CD "Orik" with the Marc Demuth Quartet. In March 2008 she got selected to participate at the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), that identifies outstanding, emerging young artists from all over the world.
She finished recently the first year of her master degree at the Brussels Conservatory (Brussels, Belgium) with David Linx, and will be going to Paris in September 2008 to do the second year at "Le Conservatoire de Paris" (CNSMDP) as an exchange student.
