Three young darling sisters, wandered from their home.
The red leaves all had fallen and the sky was holding snow.
They said goodbye in whispers as their parents were inside.
Grateful for the love they’d had, they turned to the outside.
Light fell soft and sideways on the sisters as they sang.
Shadows stretched for ever, distant church bells rang.
“We sing unto the darkness, we go where night is long”
Cold air held their voices, cold air was the song.
“We have left our family, we wait for our release.
We wait to find our own true loves, we go to make our peace.
With faith, unto the forest, we chase the setting sun;
Fearless in our sisterhood, we three in parts are one.”
“Fearless?” asked the Shadows? They rose, as fell the light.
“Fearless,” said the sisters, their voices soft and bright.
“But we will now consume you, Night will take your breath,
Singing girls will not escape a moonless night of death.”
Their voices rose, sounds grew strong, darkness clutched the three.
“Why did you think the Dark would stop to show you clemency?”
“We sing for light in darkness, we sing to find your heart
We throw ourselves into the void for faith in ancient art.”
Shadows did not listen, sunlight disappeared.
Cold air spun and whinnied, sharp and crisp and clear.
Before you wonder why or mourn what’s come to pass
Ask yourself what you will sing the day that is your last.
