   About The Lonesomes PDX

"Urban Americana that travels Wilco's sidewalks on an old Schwinn cruiser." -- Allison Picard, Lucky Duck Productions

Our new record "Quick Fixes & Power Trips" is available for purchase at CD Baby.

Just click the above icon and order a copy.

Here's a few comments we've heard and read about the record so far.

"Four Stars . . . pulling desert rock songs that take you back to the beautitful times of Green On Red, True West, the Sand Rubies and the Woodcocks. On Quick Fixes & Power Trips, The Lonesomes drink from the same excellent cup." — WIEBREN RIJKEBOER, Altcountry.nl

"Five stars . . . Small Town Stories & Big, Beautiful Sounds . . . this is the sound of a songwriter - a storyteller - and a band hitting their stride. The record follows small-town folks through their beat patrols and bus rides, crossroads and milestones, as the shadow of war hangs just on the edges of the frame distorting and corrupting from the outside in. The tunes move seamlessly from Crazy Horse rock-ups to the sweet and ethereal vibe of MMJ - always honestly and soulfully. You'll be discovering and re-discovering resonant moments from this record with every new listen. --TFW, CD Baby review

“One of the best 20 international releases of the year.” — COLIN FIELDING, host, “Folk and Roots,” (3INR, 96.4 FM) Melbourne, Australia

“The record is great. All the tracks are solid with great lyrics, music and a strong lead singer that reminds me a lot of Tom Petty. I enjoyed all the tracks, especially Saint Nick, The Ballad of Frank and Ruth and Heaven Help Us. The solos closing out Doctor Jim are great and a great way to end the song and the disc." - MASON PERALTA, A&R, Shut Eye Records, Atlanta, GA

“I enjoyed the new Lonesomes CD. It was very 60s/70s rock reminiscent and I'm a big fan of that era. Gave me a Byrds/Dylan/Neil Young kinda classic rock feeling.” - HEATHER, Booking/FOH Engineer/Promotions, Ash Street Saloon, Portland, OR

“The Lonesomes' new CD, Quick Fixes & Power Trips, is a solid alt-country record that sounds at times like the Drive-By Truckers or Son Volt, with some nice guitar licks.” - ROBERT LOERZEL, The Underground Bee www.undergroundbee.com, Chicago, IL

Praise for our 2004 record "Circling The Sun" follows:

"The sweet, rootsy pop of The Lonesomes breezes about with a curiously sinister naivete. The Portland, OR trio swings from airy to brooding with lackadaisical ease on their debut, Circling The Sun. There..s no lack of rock though, as evident with a small handful of numbers that blaze with near-psychedelic fervor. With a sound that recalls a mix between Wilco and Big Star, perhaps fronted by a twangy Wayne Coyne, this debut offers a unique soundscape filled with spacious melody and a haunting vibe. Lead vocalist and guitarist Phil Favorite possesses a somewhat tentative, slightly unnerved, hushed voice that keeps these pop-ish melodies on edge, providing the same experience for the listener. The 13 tracks on Circling The Sun were produced by Brian Berg (44 Long), who also adds keys, cello and vocals, as well as guest guitarists Peter Frajola and Caleb Miles. (self-released) -- CORRIE GREGORY, Miles of Music

"You're making a mix-tape of indie rock with a country edge - open with a sweet pop song about a lost love. You want a good slow ballad with a dignified cello adding gravitas, a song about being in love with a girl in a band, something raucous, some delicate acoustic strumming, and you definitely want some pedal steel behind that . . . some anti-government southern rock, a road song, a kind of lazy mannered Stonesy thing, and how about some cow-punk finished off with an elegiac organ led waltz? You could save some time and just put this on. If they keep this up, they won't be lonesome for too long." -- DAVID COWLING, Americana UK

"Circling The Sun has a unique feel that is laced with hints of indie rock in the overall Americana style. 'Portrait' is a lovely track with witty musings and perfect instrumentation. . . . The slower-paced 'Summer Friend' has spacious melodies that give it that wandering aura . . . With songs like 'Weight of The World' and 'Weighted Down' this album boasts a collection of 13 satisfying tracks." -- CHRIS LEWIS, A&R, Shut Eye Records

"Catchy songs, great lyrics, and smart production. This record captures the evolution of the band and Phil Favorite's songwriting with a diverse collection of Americana, Portland style. When I listen to the record, it reminds me of coming home after a long vacation. Stylistically, the record goes all over the map with subtle hints of artists like REM, The Band, and 44 Long (jeez, wonder why?); yet has a cohesive sound unique to The Lonesomes." --STEVE WILKINSON, Mission 5

"The Lonesomes play the kind of twisty, dreamy alt country that makes a perfect soundtrack to summer afternoon barbecues . . . Phil Favorite's voice is smooth and kind of high, but full of weight, and his phrasing is the kind that sneaks up on you. You don't even realize at first how good he sings, how well he delivers, how deft his vocal touch really is. It's when you're singing along in the car - and you will - that it becomes clear he's a tricky bastard." -- NATALIE YAZBEK, Fatalbeauty.com

How were we not already friends? Oh well, probably my bad. We really should play a show together one of these days you know, while Mark's still young enough to play back to back gigs.

Been way too long since I traveled down that road...

Realized again I would not catch The Lonesomes show...

Heard all the tales from people weighted down by The Man...

Many forms and shapes he takes until you can't fly across this great, great land...

The Gas Man. Can't afford the gas, man.

Sorry I missed the BBQ...actually, Autumn and I showed up at 4, hoping to catch a half hour of Lonesomes before we had to jet across the river for a surprise birthday party. The guy at the gate wanted canned food and would NOT accept cash (?), and we could hear another band playing until past 4:05. Figuring you guys wouldn't be on until at least 4:25, we bagged it and headed east.
Sorry to have missed it; we'll see you at Duff's!
