My sweet wife and I, along with our family, face a truth that we can not avoid. My wife and I are hard workers and employed FT at a major retailer. We are currently raising 2 beautiful, 14 year old girls Shelby Nicole and Teri Lynn. And although by some standards we may not have a lot, we feel blessed with love and integrity. The open spirit of communication is our strength. We have family meetings were any one that has issues or concerns can voice them. Not only does that strength bond us, but educates us to one another's needs.
For almost eight years we have strived to do our very best. We treat each other and others, with decency, even when faced with life's perils. Like all families, we have our ups and downs, but with the love and strength of one another, we always seem to pull through.
Two weeks ago we heard Dr. Bowman, a pediatric oncologist, say words that no parent wants to hear. Those words shook the very core of my family. You see, our daughter, Teri Lynn, has cancer. A rare cancer that occurs in adolescents, called PNET. Primitive Neuro-ectodermal tumor. It is part of the Ewing family of tumors. This was found after Dr. Black, pediatric surgeon, removed a tumor that was 8" by 8" by 8" from our daughters left hip area. It grew so fast, 2 months. This cancer, though rare, occurs mostly in the brain. It tends to develop from the nerves. Less rare is PNET developing from the spinal nerves, which is were Teri's did. It originated from the sacral area of the spine. Dr. Black said he got everything he could see but with this type of cancer we would have to do radiation to make sure it was gone.
Miss you guys so much!! My next business trip is going to be to Dallas, so I can't wait to get my fluxin' fix!! I'll get details your way as soon as the dates are set. Love & miss!!
