Influences
The Beatles, Kings Of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stereophonics, Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, The Who, Hendrix, Dylan, Cash, Zeppelin, Bloc Party, Blink 182, RATM.
The Quotes first formed in late 2006, bringing to the table an incomparably fresh sound teamed with catchy lyrics and a collaboration of vocals. Original members, guitarists/vocalists Ben Smith and James Ashby were later joined in 2007 by bassist Liam Barnes and come 2008, drummer Josh Bacon.
The Quotes have gained a massive local fan base and continue only to grow in both popularity and talent. With sell-out crowds at such venues as The Monto Water Rats, London and South Street Arts Centre, Reading.
The Quotes have also secured several festival slots this year, including The Great Escape, Guilfest, Marvellous, Rock on The Moor and Rock in The Rec
Festivals.
Following their album release in September 2008 (featuring particularly well-loved songs, ‘Glorious Day' and 'Why Johnny Why'); The Quotes have now gone on to record a new EP at Area 18 Studios, London, which is due to be released in July. A music video had also been made for their new single ‘Down The Line’, which shall be released alongside the EP.
With a range of self-described influences, from The Beatles and The Who to the more recent Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kings of Leon, The Quotes certainly have an original sound that fuses melodic yet snappy music with a variation of vocals, compelling the crowd to join in. Their return from a Northern Italy tour and success in winning the fans vote in the Road to V competition speaks for itself, clearly depicting the talent that was simply four individuals coming together - and is now, The Quotes.
The Quotes have recently supported The Charlatans, Goldie Lookin’ Chain and Hockey.
