How do you define sound? How do you defy sound? Ingrid and Dorothy ask themselves this question every time they create music. Not with words, but with the melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation that they make. They have both been trained in music in various different ways, but that training has left them with more ammunition to defy convention, rather than forcing them to subscribe to the ways of today's musical world. Venus7 is more concerned with being true to the moment than displaying a polished image. This results in live shows that brim with theatrics and humor, and recorded sound that captures the essence of each second. For this, they have often been labelled as "fresh", and they accept that--as did the hip-hop forefathers and mothers that came before.
Venus 7's sound is enriched by their exploration of all genres of music. Their personal taste has allowed jazz, rock, hip hop, funk, and soul to merge. Their sound integrates the truthfully witty lyricism of folk music and the blues with the edginess of today’s urban (and suburban...and SUV) musical scenes. Comical, individual, trusting of each other's genius, their artistic innovation and versatility allows them to reach past the boundaries of music today and into their own new musical dimension.
