English Bio (short): Burkina Faso meets Senegal in Europe! Kokoura means ' something new' and was formed by 3 young African musicians ( senegal, burkina faso) and later completed with 3 young Dutch musicians and the wonderful Brazilian singer Ceumar. Influenced by soul, afrobeat, jazz, blues, reggae and traditional west-african music they are able to blend and mix all tastes into a wonderfull new sound! Burkina Faso ontmoet Senegal in Europa. Kokoura, wat “Iets nieuws” betekent, bestaat uit drie jonge Afrikaanse musici: Moussa & Adama Dembélé en Moussé Dramé, woonachtig in België, Frankrijk en Nederland. Beïnvloed door afrobeat, desertblues soul gebruiken ze instrumenten van hun thuisland en verweven ze de verschillende stijlen tot een bijzonder geheel. Op het nieuwe album Anitie is goed te horen hoe de gecompliceerde en syncopische Ngoni partijen goed aansluiten bij de blazers en de zang.
Een dag in een oefenruimte en de heren van Kokoura wisten genoeg: ze hadden dezelfde ideeën in de muziek en die konden ze bij elkaar kwijt. Hierbij begon hun project met de instrumenten die ze hun hele leven spelen in een ritme, uitstraling en swing van nu. Ngoni, balafoon, calabas, talking drum, udu, kalimba, djembe, doundoun, bougarabou, bassgitaar en saxofoon komen voorbij in upbeat tunes, bluesliedjes en funky Fela Kuti ritmes.
De bandleden van Kokoura spelen al jaren in diverse afrikaanse, funk en jazzgroepen in Afrika, Brazilie en Europa. Met Kokoura brengen zij hun ervaring samen in hun eigen muziekreis. Een show van Kokoura brengt je van een bluessfeer naar een dampende afrobeat. Tussendoor is er veel ruimte voor interactie, improvisaties en natuurlijk gepassioneerde solo's.
Toekomst:
Zoals de naam het zegt wil Kokoura steeds nieuwe wegen inslaan om zo hun muziek dynamisch te maken. De nieuwe cd is de eerste vrucht van deze groep creatieve muzikanten.
