Nyamuziwa Marimba plays music from the ancient mbira tradition found among the Shona people of Zimbabwe. Typically, two mbira players interweave their multi-layer parts to form a rich fabric, much like a good Bach fugue. Nyamuziwa takes this complex field of melodies and textures and apples them to an eight piece marimba ensemble, with the accompaniment of hosho (gourd shakers) which functions as the heart beat of the ensemble.
