We would like to take this opportunity to introduce to you the newest Steel Band sensation in the Virgin Islands, Phoenix Sounds Steel Orchestra.
Phoenix Sounds Steel Orchestra is a duly registered and licensed non-profit organization that was established in October 2003. Our program offers both an adult and youth steel pan group. The adult members play for the enjoyment and love of steel pan music. Included in this group are firefighters, teachers, professional businessmen and women. We also provide positive influence and motivation for our youth group, which consists primarily of at risk-inter city children.
Our music arranger/instructor Darren Lawrence is a very talented young man. He offers his talent, excitement, and love of this craft to our group. The adults and youths both enjoy his teaching.
We use this program as a way to encourage our youths by creating an enjoyable, stress free, motivational outlet for them. Music has always been and continues to be a positive outlet for everyone, adult and youths alike. Steel Pan playing offers an addictive feeling that makes you feel great, especially when you accomplish your goal.

During my recent cruise on Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas, I met Darren while I was in St. Thomas. He plays the steel drum so beautifully, I bought the CD without even knowing about the rest of the band. I listen to it at work a couple of times throughout the day, and I love it!!!
