Sharyn McCrumb's Interests
General
Whatever I'm working on--
I have just signed with Thomas Dunne Books to write two new Ballad novels. The first, The Devil Amongst the Lawyers, is set in 1935 in southwest Virginia, and features the young Nora Bonesteel. For fun I am also completing a novel co-authored by a NASCAR driver, and working on a memoir with the family of Dale Earnhardt. Then: folklore of the supernatural; Appalachian music; frontier history; and Celtic mythology; and Japanese culture.
Music
Traditional Appalachian Ballads and Scots/Irish music. The program on my Ballad novels with musical accompaniment by Celtibillies guitarist Jack Hinshelwood, has performed by us at libraries and colleges in 13 states and in Canada.
Movies
A film of my novel "The Rosewood Casket" is in the casting stage, and they hope to begin shooting soon. See my blog for an account of my adventures when Hollywood came to town.

hi there just dropping in and comment sharing. My english class finished the book and we had to write a book report type of paper. I'm not a strong writer like yourself but if you accept messages i could send you the book review i wrote, he hasnt graded them yet but I think it has potential for an A lol. thank you again! talk with you later! byes
Let me just start off by saying THANKYOU FOR THE ADD! I am now a fan of your talent! Our english teacher picked your book The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter for our 112 class at Blue Ridge and let me just say I love it! All the twists and gear switching between each character, kept me on the edge! thank you! from your college fan in Page county, Va jess.
....sharyn...ive been reading about the banshee....since im such a big fan of the ballad series...couldnt help but think about all the ghostly folklore....
Have the happiest of birthdays! And thanks for all you've meant to us over the years. You've enlightened us. You've amazed us. Thanks for letting us be a Book Band. And thanks for being our friend.
Wishing you the best of birthdays! Party like you do it every day! Take no prisoners. Have a blast! And remember, what happens in Virginia stays in Virginia!!! xox Cindy
Sharyn , I just wanted to wish a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to a writer who really knows how to tell a story that the reader just can't put down . Have a "Great Day."
Congratulations on the nominations! Still, you're right that Ward's approval trumps all else. I re-read the novel and speculated wildly on who the offending party might be . . . hmm . . . .
I finally got my hands on Once Around the Track and finished it last night. Funny, sweet, realistic, wonderful! My heart broke a little during pages 272-73, partly because of the tender writing and partly because I knew the novel would end soon. There are many little gems within--Brian Burton's "cameo," Badger's October birthday, the whole series of turtle innuendos--that made me grin.
Sharyn, thanks for the add! And thank you again for coming to Roanoke for the writer's conference. Really useful information delivered in a very entertaining way...just what you advised all of us to do!
last year was good because... i got a clean bill of health, i FINALLY got to see stevie nicks in concert, and star wars turned 30 (well actually that made me feel old) otherwise it sorta sucked so...HERE'S TO HOPING FOR A GREAT '08! now i gotta go make some black eyed peas!
CONGRATS on your NEWEST honor!!! you deserve it! about "once around the track" i just finished it yesterday (had to get it from the library, couldn't find it at any store i go to, i WILL buy it when i find it tho!) as a nascar fan, the explanations of the rules and tech got old. BUT i realize your fan base is bigger than bill elliott and elliott sadler fans:) like always, you made me CARE about the characters, and sometimes that hurts. you know what i mean, poor badger, well that SUCKED! they are EVIL but it's soooo true! but you go girl, you are my favorite living writer (i have to qualify that because i adore christie, lovecraft, and asimov too)
Hey Girl, I have not talked to you in a while. How are things in your nexk of the woods. Have a great holiday! I am doing better little by little. Hope you tell Ward we still think about him and I hope he has a great year too.
Sharyn, Thank you so much for the add! I've been hooked on your work since I read the first Elizabeth MacPherson novel. I so appreciate the beautiful, and haunting, way that you feature our area's rich heritage and beautiful landscape (I live in Kingspo
