    Verberate's Interests
GeneralAll kinds of live literature and spoken word. Performance poetry, 'on the page' poetry in traditional forms and experimental verse. Verberate likes prose readings which are geared for performance and to be listened to. We also like different kinds of performance - monologues, comedy... the list goes on. Verberate tries to promote female writers and poets and encourages new female poets to perform. So ladies first please... What Verberate doesn't like - maudlin lost love poems, re-hashes of the revolution will not be televised, epic readings of 'long' short stories that don't engage the audience...
MusicOur Dee Jays: Dunk le Chunk and Mat D from Hoodlum Tribe.John Cooper Clarke's Maison du Fromage (ok its spoken word), The Verberate audio literary compilation (still spoken word, but get it for £3.50 from The Corner House)P.J.Harvey, Kroke, Carole King Tapestry, Joni Mitchell, The Buzzcocks, Nick Cave (esp no more shall we part), Jeff Buckley (if only we'd met Jeff...), Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, anything by Puccini, anything maudlin- which I won't admit to here...
MoviesWe want words
TelevisionDon't watch it on the Last Monday of the month! Come and watch us, and our specials for festivals!!! We're much more exciting than Celebrity Love Island!
Books'The Aleph' by Borges, Etgar Keret 'The Bus Driver who wanted to be God',(I love buses) A.L. Kennedy's Night Geometry and the Garscadded Trains, Salinger's 'Franny and Zooey', and Beckett's Trilogy (get to the end and go beyond death,) been reading short stories for my phd, when did I last read a novel?

A must-see event - see our blog for more details of this exciting event for the Manchester Comedy Festival. Verberate 11 The star of The Chorlton Art's Festival's Verberate had to be Dave Maass and his ode to crooked teeth. After that it was my Verberate anniversary Flapjacks. This month, we're back at Trof Cafe, Fallowfield for a Fiction Special. (No Poetry allowed). With guest writers from Pulp Net: Rajeev Balasubramanyam, Tariq Mehmood, and Lane Ashfeldt. Slotted between the stories there will be songs from Najia Bagi, Abiodun Idovu and Adam Irving. That's 8pm 26 June. What else can you do on a monday night?
Who I'd like to meet:
poets, artisits, writers, storytellers, performers ... and fans of written and spoken word.

Even before the spoon had dropped drunkenly from his slippery mitts into the dirty kitchen sink, he knew he had had more than enough. More than his fair share; certainly more than he needed.

One half gallon of premium, all natural, farm fresh butter pecan ice cream eaten right out of the carton with a too-small cereal spoon in one setting is simply too much. Even for Evan, who made these nightly binges a regular part of his sedentary, solitary lifestyle.

After the long, hot, packed Path Train ride under the Hudson River from the City; after a dull day full of daydreaming and internet surfing in his grey fabric New York New Media cubicle; after another 12 hours enduring orders from officious idiots, Evan rushed home to the solace of his worn leather sofa. With a remote in one hand and his water pipe in the other, flipping channels in between puffs, Evan eventually worked up an appetite for frozen pizza, Mrs. Paul's and, of course, Haagen-Daz.

No store brand would do. If you are going to indulge, go all out. And so his weekly trips to the Pathmark always included a stroll down the freezer aisle. And now that the last goopy, sloppy spoonful has passed his sticky lips, Evan knew that he had had, well, more than enough.

Nothing left to do now but let the metallic ring bring the episode to a close. A quick rinse of the face, a bloated belly flop into bed, and now the stupor of slumber: letting the full feel of the lactose load gently rock him off to sleep.

After all was said and done, there was only the winding of his watch that kept him regular. Every morning after the taking of a cup of joe, the shearing of the daily scratch, the tasting of the toast and jam. On with the shirt out of the dry cleaning shroud, the push, twist, turn of the cufflink locks. Then the strapping of the chrono-meter, the back and forth of the sping-loaded moment machine.

Hey. Just a quick note. I hope you don’t mind.

My first book of poetry is now available worldwide. It’s called Ordinary Poems for Extraordinary People in these Ordinary Times. You can click here for more information, a compilation of my readers' favorite poems of mine, and excerpts of various reviews of my book.

I'd truly be honored if you bought yourself or a loved one a copy of my book. Hit me up anytime... Peace.
